I’d obviously prefer huge margins. But (1) this may be more realistic given heavy gerrymandering and (2) it may give progressive House members outsized power. If they can effectively threaten 11 defections, their negotiating leverage shoots up. Moderate Dems did the same thing in 2021.

Here's the current Polling USA House Model: 🔵 Democrats are at 228 (+4) 🔴 Republicans are at 207 (-4) - August 2, 2026 - (Change With Previous Week's Model)

Susan Collins announcing she'll vote against a controversial nominee is basically the moment it becomes clear that nominee will be confirmed. It means Thune has enough votes to confirm, and thus, Collins gets a pass to look independent.

TAPPER: One of the files you released was an image of your daughter naked. It was available for a day before it was removed. Your ex-wife's attorney says it could quality as CSAM. That's shockingly reckless behavior MAX MILLER: I wouldn't say it's shockingly reckless. There was no genitalia exposed

The DSA wasn’t on the ballot in 2024, Dems still lost. If status quo, incumbent Dems could defeat fascist, they would’ve done it by now. The GOP will call Dems communists literally no matter what. Only Dems could shoot themselves in their own foot by stifling voter excitement before an election.

The vibes may be exciting, but if Democrats are going to win this year and in 2028, they must reject the DSA. If you’re tempted by a democratic socialist this year, think of what use Republicans will make of these victories, and ask whether you want to do favors for fascists.

People harping on the Clausewitz reference, and appropriately so. But they’re missing that McCormick essentially states here that either (1) this is a war of choice or (2) that the GOP cares more about its political success than US security. It has to be one or the other.

Rep. Rich McCormick on Iran: "I'm a big Clausewitzian warfare guy. I believe in dominance. We are the dominant world superpower. These guys are not. I would've been unrelenting until the end."

The best way to get to the bottom of the McConnell question is for the governor to appoint a replacement. The GOP legislature passed a law stripping him of that power, but it goes against the state constitution. If they refuse to seat the replacement, take them to court. There’s zero downside.

Horrid take. Hits on something important + underrated though—Congressional Dems interact far more consistently, concretely, honestly, and for longer periods of time with GOP politicians than with average Americans. Their colleagues are realer to them than their own constituents. And that’s the issue

My hot take is that Lindsey Graham did many contemptible things but if you’re furious that his Senate Democratic colleagues are posting nice things about him today you need to put down your phone, get some fresh air, and remember a time when a colleague you disliked departed this mortal coil.

The son of the man shot and killed by ICE: I am Ronaldo Salgado, the oldest son of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. He should've been picking up the last of his guys before heading to finish up construction. Unbeknownst to all of us, my dad had been shot inside his van by ICE agents in unmarked cars.

Kidding! Of course they wouldn't. But if Maine Democrats are worried about this line of attack, it'd give them a killer response: "We did everything possible to make this process open. We even tried to change the law, to have a new primary, but Republicans blocked it."

My interview: “I came to this country as an infant and became a U.S. citizen,” Roswell Encina said. “So sitting there, on the Fourth of July, I couldn’t help but think about the promise of America and the work still required to protect it.” www.advocate.com/news/people/...

Roswell Encina, a gay Filipino American civic leader, said the Fourth of July encounter with Patriot Front was frightening and impossible to separate from American history.

AOC: These are two young, talented, intelligent women who got elected against all odds, against millions of dollars. Perhaps there is something we can learn from them.

"Mr secretary! The floor is hers. You know, there is a chairman. That's me" -- even the Republican committee chair is losing patience with Markwayne Mullin, who is gripping a stress ball as he clearly struggles to control his temper

Lots of commentary about Darializa Avila Chevalier and Mamdani’s decision to endorse her. I think it’s incredibly strategic, both in the short term and long term — despite (and maybe even because) of her more radical positions. First, when it comes to the NYPD Mamdani has not been particularly (1/)

US ATTORNEY ESSAYLI: Is there enough fraud to sway an election? We don't know CUOMO: No ESSAYLI: You can't say 'no.' You haven't done an investigation CUOMO: I've covered elections for 30 years. You know how many cases of widespread fraud I covered? One! And it was the Trump administration
