One of the best ways to do traffic calming: entrance to a side street turned into a small square in front of a local pub / café, preventing rat running & creating a social space, while allowing pedestrians and cyclists to move freely.

A continuous sidewalk & bikelane passing a side street. The side street is narrowed to a bike path, with the rest of the space take up by a paved space in front of a pub, with seating + some bike parking. A small street with apartment buildings & car parking on each side, ending in a small square with seating in front of a pub. A bike path passes the square, connecting to the street beyond.
