This is an important step for devolution in England, bringing power closer to people. But Andy Burnham’s plans shouldn’t stop at Offa’s Dyke. Wales needs more powers over rail, the Crown Estate and justice and policing so that our communities have the means to thrive.

Andy Burnham to give regional mayors share of income tax

The prime minister says the move will give power to "every postcode" but critics say the plans lack detail.

Another Prime Minister goes and a new one enters No. 10. Congratulations to Andy Burnham on his appointment. We stand ready to work constructively with the new PM to ensure the potential of devolution is unlocked to truly improve the lives of people in Wales.

With Andy Burnham becoming Labour’s new leader, we hope to see a more respectful relationship between Wales and Westminster. While he has talked the talk on devolution, it’s now time for him to walk the walk by respecting Wales's mandate for more powers and delivering on it.

What could Andy Burnham's premiership mean for Wales?

A plan to devolve powers to councils could put him on collision course with the Welsh government.

This is the right decision, but the news will be bittersweet for many in Wales. The same UK Government that took emergency steps to save steelworks in Scunthorpe failed to act with urgency to save thousands of jobs in Port Talbot. Double standards have cost Welsh communities.

Let's see what Labour are walking away from here: - £145m to cut NHS waiting lists - £120m for ALN - £55m for childcare - £15m for free school meals The people of Wales may have rejected Labour in May, but that doesn't mean Labour should reject their priorities today.

Labour won't be supporting Plaid's budget today. They are calling on Plaid to withdraw it, make changes and bring it back in the summer. I understand the Greens plan to support the budget but without Labour support as well it will fail.

This is outright discrimination from Reform. It shows a stubborn ignorance of the advantages of bilingualism and multilingualism, and exposes Reform's politics as a tyranny of the majority when it comes to use of language.

Labour’s Immigration and Asylum Bill fails to tackle the real issues within the system. It undermines people’s rights, including those of innocent children. We need a controlled and compassionate system that helps people integrate into our communities. That’s why Plaid Cymru voted against it.

Dyw Mesur Mewnfudo a Lloches Llafur ddim yn mynd i’r afael â’r problemau go iawn o fewn y system. Mae’n tanseilio hawliau pobl, gan gynnwys plant diniwed. Mae angen system deg sy’n cael ei rheoli arnom sy’n helpu pobl i integreiddio i’n cymunedau. Dyna pam y pleidleisiodd Plaid Cymru yn ei erbyn.

Mae’r newyddion am lofruddiaeth Ann Widdecombe yn erchyll. Ni ddylai unrhyw AS fyw mewn ofn a rhaid i fesurau fod yn eu lle i'w gwarchod. Mae ymgysylltu'n uniongyrchol ag etholwyr yn rhan allweddol o’n democratiaeth - rhaid i ni gydweithio i amddiffyn y gwerthoedd hyn.

The news of Ann Widdecombe’s murder is deeply shocking. No MP should live in fear of violence, and safeguards must be in place to protect them. Engaging directly with constituents is a key part of our democracy and we must work together to protect these values.

The Welsh Government has rightly chosen to invest in tackling child poverty. No UK Government should have the power to claw that money back from struggling families. The idea that Whitehall could even consider preventing Welsh children from receiving £10 a week is scandalous.

Labour's 2026 manifesto committed to reforming the Barnett Formula and create a needs-based funding system for Wales. But yesterday they joined Reform and the Tories to vote against Plaid Cymru’s call for fair funding. They've learnt nothing - it's party before country yet again.

I’ve called on the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards to conduct a formal investigation into whether Nigel Farage breached the MP Code of Conduct, specifically regarding the gifts and benefits he received from George Cottrell in the 12 months leading up to the 2024 General Election.

Farage took a £5 million donation from a foreign billionaire and failed to declare it. He owns five mortgage-free homes but declared only two. This so-called ‘man of the people’ seems more focused on lining his own pockets and hiding it than doing the job he was elected to do.

Heddiw, cadarnhaodd Starmer y bydd cyllidebau'n cael eu torri i ariannu'r DIP. Er mor bwysig yw'r cynllun, ni ddylai ddod ar draul gwasanaethau cyhoeddus yng Nghymru. Dyna pam mae Plaid Cymru yn galw am bwerau benthyca cryfach i Gymru i amddiffyn ein cymunedau rhag toriadau niweidiol y DU.

Today, Starmer confirmed budgets will be cut to fund the Defence Investment Plan. However important the plan is, it shouldn’t come at the expense of Welsh public services. That's why Plaid Cymru is calling for stronger borrowing powers to protect Wales from damaging UK spending cuts.

Burnham’s focus today seemed to be on ‘the regions’ - aka England. But the people of Wales have made it clear they want more powers over rail, Crown Estate and justice. We live in hope Burnham wants to deliver for our communities too and so he must listen to our calls and act.

Andy Burnham sets out plans to devolve power to regions with new 'No 10 North' in Manchester

Andy Burnham says if he becomes PM, he will deliver "good growth in every British postcode" and offer "new opportunities to extend" UK devolution - but does not give more detail.

In 2015, Burnham said Wales was being shortchanged and pledged to correct it if he became leader. Now, he's dropping those promises. If the 'King of the North' is already abandoning his principles, Labour risks being led by another politician lacking vision and conviction.

Mae Cymru wedi talu’n ddrud am fethiannau Brexit. Mae'n bryd bod yn onest ynglŷn â’r manteision o gysylltiadau agosach ag Ewrop. Rhaid i Lywodraeth nesaf y DU ymgyrchu i ailymuno â'r farchnad sengl a'r undeb tollau er mwyn sefydlogrwydd, mwy o gyfleoedd ac economi iachach.

Wales has paid a heavy price for Brexit’s failures. It’s time to be honest about the benefits of closer ties with Europe. The next UK Government must campaign to rejoin the single market and the customs union for the sake of stability, more opportunities and a healthier economy.

Westminster is once again consumed by its own chaos. It’s disappointing that the Prime Minister has not made Wales a priority by finding time to meet the First Minister. At least in Wales we have a @plaidcymru.bsky.social government that fights for our communities.

Port Talbot has already been the subject of this UK Government’s double standards when it comes to steel. Again today, they failed to guarantee that Welsh steel sites would receive a fair share of funding which risks the future of yet more Welsh jobs and livelihoods.

Mae gweithfeydd dur Port Talbot eisoes wedi cael eu trin yn eilradd gan Lywodraeth y DU. Eto heddiw, ni wnaethon nhw gadarnhau y byddai safleoedd dur Cymru yn derbyn cyfran deg o gyllid sy'n peryglu dyfodol hyd yn oed mwy o swyddi a bywoliaethau Cymru.

After months of destruction, bloodshed and global instability, the proposed agreement to end this war is welcome news. But peace cannot be selective. A lasting settlement must include an end to Israel's occupation in Lebanon. Peace means peace.
