On a late spring evening a few weeks ago we had the privilege of recording an episode of the brilliant podcast Shed Sessions, surrounded by birdsong, friends and growing plants. We played five songs from Feelings Explorer I & II and talked Making Art, Sonny Rollins and Damo Suzuki.

Feelings Explorer I & II Listening Party

Join Lucy Leave for an exclusive listen through of their new double album Feelings Explorer I & II. Put the kettle on while you consider 26 tracks of genre-mixing home-made rock music, and ask us some difficult questions to counter the difficult questions we just asked *you*. To whet your appetite, here are some kind words from OMS magazine's Hugh Garetty. "The only disappointment in reviewing this sprawling delight of an album is the digital format. In an alternative timeline it would be a double vinyl LP complete with gatefold sleeve suitable for preparation of the unusual smoking materials appropriate to such a task. Anyway, what we have here is a 26 track (really!) riot of guitar-based impressionism, loose jazz and endearing self referentiality. Medium and message converge; a definite theme of ‘Feelings Explorer’ is the process of making the album itself. ‘Making Art (Keeps Me Alive)’ even includes a reviewer-friendly list of musical influences, some apparent (Shellac, Charlie Parker) others rather less so (Stephen Sondheim). “I don’t understand why we can’t simply take a year off from everything to practice our guitars...” laments the song of that quote; a question that has troubled musicians since time immemorial." "Despite evoking a range of musical comparison more catholic than the Pope, Lucy Leave remains unmistakably sui generis. This is music that is hard to describe, impossible to categorise but easy to love. Determinedly idiosyncratic, addictively listenable, there are few bands anywhere (and none at all locally) making music more interesting or original than Lucy Leave. Truly a ‘Trout Mask Replica’ for our times."
