I never linked this piece on social media because I was worried about what men might see it and if one of the men in one of the stories might come across it. I was scared of them but I was also protecting them. I’m done with that now. www.aqreview.org/vol-38-numbe...

"To understand Dolly, you have to read her as a writer. Writing her own story was the most radical, precise way to define herself in a world that kept trying to fit her into a box."

Opinion | Loving Dolly Parton Was Easy. Understanding Her Was Hard. (Gift Article)

She didn’t see herself as a saint; she identified as something we needed even more: a writer.

One unintended consequence of doing @smokelong.bsky.social 's #archivechallenge : I'm reading even more flash in the wild than I do normally, and it feels like an education. Obviously I study flash already to learn how to write it, but somehow I'm getting an extra layer of learning here? Brilliant.

Happy National Library Week! 💙📚

I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland. And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.

Kyle Cassidy@kylecassidy.bsky.social · 8mo ago

I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.

Aren’t you?

Fellow authors, I love you, and I know it feels like we don’t have a choice, but B&N and Am*zon both scheduled sales this week to preempt Independent Bookstore Day, a hugely vital source of income for indie bookstores. Please don’t promote their sales; please promote your local indie this week.

Bluesky feels like I took a Time Machine back to 2009 when I was still like “Hey this social media thing is going to make the world a better place.”
