On a side note, the reason electric cars are not a solution in denser urban areas is that people in these areas generally do not have a dedicated parking place to put a charging station. We rely on street parking, which is very rarely in front of our own houses.

(Yes, you can get electric cars, but these pose their own issues: they still use a lot of power, and so require electric generation build out, and the car infrastructure itself reinforces the use of generated power, repeatedly, throughout the day, for very minor transactions.)

As someone who represented death row inmates in a state that abolished (DE), a state with a long moratorium (PA) and on the fed row (client received clemency from Biden), this bothsides argument is ridiculous. The difference in fates between an inmate in a Dem state & in a GOP state is stark.

One more thing about the death penalty before going offline. As disgusted as we should be by Trump's bloodlust, we should NOT lose sight of the CENTRAL role of Democrats in upholding, expanding, and enabling this system that seems to horrify so many people right now. It really cannot be said enough.

Whenever there is an execution, people gleefully discuss the prisoner's last meal. Whenever there is a police killing, people share the video widely on socials. We have a ridiculously long history of extrajudicial executions that people would attend & share mementos from. This is in fact who we are

Sorry but no, it is in fact notable that the US is doing something only very extremist regimes do. To willingly abandon “this isn’t who we are” as a response is to throw away a very powerful rhetorical weapon.

I have mostly been negatively polarized into liking Shapiro. I will fight anyone who brings up Ellen Greenberg. But the only reason that man opposes the death penalty is that he knows he couldn't make it through the Dem presidential primary process as the guy who brought back the death penalty to PA

David Schwartz@davidschwartz.bsky.social · 2d ago

Watch this. Josh Shapiro was asked about the death penalty at tonight's PA Gov debate. Instead of dodging his changed position, like most politicians would, he raised it himself and explained how he evolved after a talk with his son. This is a skill. You don't see that often.

Beating my head against the brick wall that is the School District of Philadelphia to get one tiny piece of information that likely could determine where Kid #2 goes to high school in the cursed system of school "choice"

I cannot help but notice that leftist groups do not, for the most part, demand that all lefty Catholics only attend churches that dissent from the teachings of the Church hierarchy on abortion and queer rights. They broadly understand that sometimes one has a cultural link to people with bad views.

Pretty dark day for the party when the motion looks set to pass despite opposition from MPs and former leaders practically begging not to do this. Crank takeover is complete and the party is lost for now.

The 6 other GOP state reps represent rural districts in central & western PA. Across those districts, there are 4 shuls & zero Jewish Philly public school students. They, along with White, can @#$% off into the sun. My Jewish SDP kids need those a-holes to fully fund the Philly public schools

LunaNuna@lunanuna.bsky.social · 2w ago

Of course the Inquirer does not link to the letter or name the state reps besides the odious Martina White. I want to know who these fools are that purport to represent the interests of my Jewish SDP student kids and give them a piece of my mind

Took kid #2 on his first high school tour today and can I just say that school choice was a terrible idea, small high schools were a terrible idea and I will be as excited for Paul Vallas' death as some of you were for Henry Kissinger
