The @mackinac.social native app is coming along. Most of the basic stuff is built out, but still some missing larger features.
There’s a new articles setting that lets you disable the in-app reader. When enabled, articles will open in their original source instead of the built-in reader, both from the Articles feed and the main feed.

Now, when you click on publications within profile pages in Mackinac, you’ll be taken to a publication page where you can view all posts and subscribe.

Starting today, the Articles feature is out of Labs and generally available! You can now subscribe to publications and read their content directly in your Articles feed. This feature is built on the @standard.site lexicons.
AI settings are now available in @mackinac.social and the @atexplore.social MCP has been updated to respect these settings. This is built to on the @lexicon.community Lexicon so it will work with any app that respects those settings.

We've recently shipped a few new things for articles in Mackinac. - You can subscribe to publications from profile pages. - Publications on profiles will show follower count. - You can now update some of your publication settings on your profile page. - Better article display on the articles feed.

We've added some features to make it easier to access profiles you visit often. You can favorite a profile, which will appear when you visit the search page. We've also added a Jump to feature under the user menu to quickly navigate to specific handles. Jump to works across protocols.
The Articles feature is now available in Labs. You can access labs features by clicking the avatar in the top right corner -> click settings -> select labs.

Mackinac supports custom verifications via @microcosm.blue. In settings -> verifications, you can set which verifiers you trust. You can verify users in the UI and manage your verification records.
*puts on Bridgy Fed hat* Mastodon and Bsky are architected for two very different kinds of people, and if a mass # of users were to interoperate via bridges, the benefits of each would be so much clearer and people could use what makes sense for them
Faine Greenwood@faineg.bsky.social · 4mo agoi genuinely don't have a PROBLEM with Mastodon in that I'm glad it exists, is doing other stuff with federated social media, and that some people seem to really like using it. it is just not For Me and I am not interested in trying it again (because I like Bluesky! Bluesky is enjoyable for me!)
We want to make bridging feel as native as possible. These feature are just the start.

Mackinac is available in beta as a PWA! We’re looking to build native apps for both Android and iOS in the future. Lots more to come!
