While researching earlier this week, I pulled boxes (and boxes) of Roddy McDowall’s correspondence because there were letters from Myrna included. One of these boxes was from the period he was filming Cleopatra in Italy.

I always make sure to stop by Brattle Books when I’m in Boston- I’ve been going there for almost two decades at this point. Walked up to stacks of random Life mags and found the issue Myrna appears in! Plus some books on hunks. What finds!

Day one (of three!) research days are done. I went through a ton of Myrna’s agent’s files and ooooh my, did I discover a few things to write about. Tomorrow holds even bigger things. Y’all, if today was the start…I’m so excited for what is to come.

I knew getting up in the middle of the night to catch an early flight would yield really poor sleep and yet, I’m still surprised. Well, time to get up and get going- I have a full day of research in the archives once I land. Myrna Loy’s papers await!

Very sad that the Marvel podcasting world has lost one of its greats today. John from @theavenginghour.bsky.social was such a genuinely nice, thoughtful, knowledgeable person and it was a pleasure to know him not only as a fellow fan, but a friend.

Listen, next week my ass is digging through Liz’ correspondence to Roddy McDowall while she was filming some of these movies because I know that if I find some gems, Sara is gonna know exactly how to use them. Even if I find nothing- these zines will be rip-roaring amazing and should not be missed.

It doesn’t matter which disaster movie she appeared in- Ava Gardner ate the fuck out of each and every one of her scenes.

Roll it back even further- going around making "I Dream of Jeannie" references in the 1990s. I had no exposure to Larry Hagman in Dallas until I was in college with the rise of TV seasons on DVD. For the first two decades of my life, he was ONLY Major Nelson. It's a weird sub-generation.

Day 4 of the Action Against Alzheimer’s art campaign to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association and today I have drawn the ever-lovin’, blue-eyed Thing! This one is available for purchase! It is 6x9 and would be $60.

With lots of travel on the horizon, I'm trying to watch as many disaster movies as possible from my list and make notes. That way, I can write while in transit or at night in the hotel. The challenge? I still have an Ernest Borgnine movie to get through.

Currently watching a disaster movie for this future zine and folks…it’s bad. I have a good theme for this section, but this movie is so hard to get through.

I....am going to need basically all of these.

Really bizarre that Gloria Swanson, Martha Raye, and Fred MacMurray all had disaster movies as their last cinematic appearances. Really shows you how ubiquitous the genre was!

Preparing for my Flame Con panel, which includes Terry Kavanagh (who wrote X-Man and so many other great titles), and I just can’t wait to bring up this queen.
