Trying to convince me, a neurodivergent writer, that you can’t write without AI because you’re neurodivergent is a losing game, btw.
I’m struggling to understand how we’re “proving” things are AI when we know AI detectors are currently garbage? And why pull a $2.5mil deal just on that suspicion, esp if English isn’t the author’s first language? I don’t like the implications it has for ESL authors…
Reminder that I’ll be open for the first week of August starting this Saturday! Here’s a bit about what I’m looking for… #MSWL #amquerying
The older I get, the more I love frogs. They’re just cool little guys
Writers: limit your stage directions. If one motion from your character indicates an emotion, we don't need a second in the same sentence. Examples of stage directions: -sigh -frown -look/stare/glare -crossing arms -furrow brows -purse lips -smile/smirk #writersky #writingadvice
It constantly blows my mind how some writers think it's totally fine to bash their peers by saying all modern books "suck" as a reason why they, themselves, haven't been published. 😐 #writersky
A lot of the work you do on your book won't end up on the page. #amwriting #writingcommunity
Across all my submissions, I'm seeing a TON of passive voice and past progressive (which often gets mistaken for passive voice) People don't realize this, but it slows your pace down *significantly* #amwriting #writersky
Inbox update: -Queries from June and older are in my maybe pile -Working slowly through fulls (out of order, sorry) -Still reading through queries from July #amquerying #amwriting #writingcommunity
A quick dirty guide to COMP TITLES: DO I NEED COMP TITLES? Yes WHY? 1) Positioning in the market 2) Shows awareness of the market 3) Gives you the chance to point out why your book is different #writersky #amquerying 1/4🧵
Friends!!! Huge news!! I have a literary agent! (!!!) I'm writing a book!
Excited to welcome Robin to Team MadHope! I can't wait to get this actionable nonfiction about community, isolation, religion, and the path to change in a world centered around cars, in front of editors 🤩 @jesusurbanist.bsky.social

Things I've offered on since becoming an agent: 1 YA horror 2 Adult fantasy 1 Artist 1 Nonfiction #amagenting #amquerying
Told my boss I used to be a theatre kid and she said “that makes a lot of sense” 💀
How it feels to know you shouldn’t rise to ragebait but you have an incessant need to explain to people why they’re wrong
re: personalization in queries: don't worry about it. Personalization is nice to have, but it isn't make or break your chances. And it often doesn't mean much if the extent is "my book matches your wishlist." Agents are going to assume it matches, since you're sending it. #amquerying #writersky
I really, really dislike the rising sentiment that we should take away programs for Boomers because they had it better than us. It ignores the fact that poverty has always existed and been a factor, and there are disabled elderly individuals who literally could not live without these programs.
Is this a safe space to say I never liked Zutara 🧍♀️
What is the first book you read that made you say, "I want to be a writer"? #writersky #writersofbluesky #writingcommunity
Publishing is slow. We're talking six months for a reply slow. Two years+ for a book deal slow. It's completely fine if you don't want to wait & want to get your book out there. But… #writersky #writingcommunity
Two of my biggest pieces of advice for authors: 1. Find your people 2. Keep writing #amwriting #writingcommunity #writersky
One of the hardest parts about being an agent is deciding what amazing thing to read next...

Yall, AI is not writing form rejection letters from agents. There’s just typical language we use and only so many ways we can politely pass on something #writingcommunity
Felt brave over the weekend and sent some emails and now I'm wondering if they went to spam or if they *look* like spam 🫠
I had an amazing time this past weekend taking pitches for Writing Away Refuge (my spots were completely booked! wow!!), and want to share some advice for pitching your book to agents (or editors) in person or on Zoom: #writersky #amquerying #writingcommunity
If I click on your blog and the first image is an AI-generated image, I'm immediately out.
Dear authors, Your debut novel is not the first novel you write or query, but the first novel you publish. Sincerely, me #writersky #writingcommunity
