Hey, guys, when the librarians get pissed about the destruction of books, it’s time to put those listening ears on. Because we are very comfortable with the idea that books are tools that can be retired. What’s happening right now is not that.

I have destroyed lots of books. They won’t make an impact on the state of community knowledge. What is being described here? You are watching us lose knowledge in hyperdrive. You should not be chill about this.

I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary

14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com · yesterday

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

The idea of a Black academic being hounded to death for alleged acts of plagiarism in an era when universities are entering into contracts with AI companies and encouraging AI use among students, while Big Tech is stealing EVERYTHING humans write...

These questions have now been asked of Blanche repeatedly & he gives the same bullshit answer each time. Here’s an idea: How about we ask Blanche direct and pointed questions about his noncompliance with court orders from Judge Sullivan compelling him to provide unredacted Epstein Files?

WELKER: Can you pledge the DOJ will always act independently of the WH? BLANCHE: No, I'm not going to pledge that WELKER: So if the president asked you do to something that you feel crosses an ethical or legal line, would you do it? BLANCHE: He would never do that. He never has. He never will.

Millions of drivers across the country are encountering speed cameras for the first time, or will soon. Some don't like it, but advocates say there's clear evidence that cameras make roads safer. n.pr/4gwT62D

As speed cameras spread to more states, so does the backlash from drivers

🚨EXCLUSIVE: Military families and service members are now describing horrific conditions across MULTIPLE ships: human waste flooding bathrooms, virtually no food, water or soap, months without port calls, exhausted crews, and no end in sight. This crisis is far bigger than just the Lincoln.

Not Just the Lincoln: Families Describe Human Waste, No Food, No End in Sight Across Multiple Ships

Since MeidasTouch began reporting on conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, messages have poured in to MeidasTouch from military families and service

The GOPs problem is that Trump has run and governed exactly as men worry women will govern. He is an actual emotionally overwrought gossipy lightweight. If a woman is going to convince voters she can win, its probably going to be after the emperors clothes have come out dirty from the wash.

My only comment about Woke 1 vs Woke 2 is that neither of these things is real &, for the thousandth time, we don’t have to frame <every topic in American politics> on the terms of the far right authoritarian party & right-wing pundits. Other, more serious choices are readily available:

🙏🏻 for sharing this— I might have missed it while taking a couple of days’ breather from the post-WI election commentary, ope, I mean nonsense from those same pundits. Fran Hong has changed Wisconsin for the better. Folks who aren’t from up here have no idea just how much her campaign meant to us.

I’m not saying Norman’s call for a coup should've been mentioned in all of NYT’s last 92 stories that cited him. But not once? Even in a recent “5 Things” story about Norman, NYT ignored the traitorous text while saying he “has been a real estate developer for 4 decades.” That's normalization. 7/7🧵

The longtime lawmaker, a member of an ultraconservative group of House members, came in third place in the Republican primary for governor this year.

My god. Everything is not a distraction from the Epstein files. They LIKE doing a fascism. The whole “exerting their power over the powerless“ thing comes from the same root. They are assholes in a large number of ways, and the Epstein files are one of those ways.
