Ninja Scroll (Yoshiaki Kawajiri, 1993): An entertaining action movie. I liked this more than the previous Kawajiri things I've seen. Still very shittily sexist way though
Avatar the Last Airbender is a perfect example of why franchises suck, and yet people go "this franchise could have been so good, if only they had done everything after the original show differently"

It's easy to remember the weird silly moments as ZZ-only things but they're actually uncommonly spread out all around Zeta? I guess it's easy to forget when they don't fit the mental image of Zeta as perennial doom and gloom
It's my third time watching Zeta and I'm still finding incredible new lines
Aose Kiiro-led flickering watercolors? Gorgeous. Interesting that the ED is less of a departure from the base designs than her work on Makeine. Likely due to affinity with Jaadugar's style, but I choose to believe that it's thanks to Yanami Anna's magnanimous heart* *the artist painted Komari's ED
Been singing the praises of Yoko Kuno for many years so I'm happy that she got to direct a highly anticipated show's opening. Very noticeable fantasy tint to the colors, more akin to her sensibilities than the show's grounded, earthen tones
Yamada has spoken about Jaadugar forcing her to ditch her Filmed Animation angle. Rather than artificial lens emulation, here she roots the manipulation of the lighting both in cel & natural causes like the sunset. Almost like a light (heavy...) version of CITY's philosophy
Also think it's important that the world Sitara traverses after the destruction of what'd become her home is, if anything, more colorful than before. There's a cruel natural beauty to it, opposed to the hand-crafted opulence of the start
The defining trait of Jaadugar is its patterning: it's the most visually arresting aspect, a useful tool to get across the texture of each culture, and time and time again it holds thematic significance as well. The anime uses them to immediately establish a thriving, rich civilization
You can notice as much in Kenichi Yoshida's adaptation of the character designs, which preserve the simple silhouettes but can be imbued with volume whenever a scene benefits from adding presence to its characters. Drawings in the first episode, directly under his supervision, are particularly good
Stunning premiere for Jaadugar. The level of cultural research and respect is on display, but Tomato Soup & the team led by Abel Gongora and Naoko Yamada make it clear they don't want a detached historical retelling with affecting, highly subjective storytelling. As unique as it is high quality
Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia 1 Sometimes you watch something that feels made just for you
I just love that Hunter x Hunter is still published in Weekly Shonen Jump. Just what do Japanese middle schoolers think when they read a chapter where the characters just discuss fictional linguistics and constitutional law
Netflix really did put "JoJo Friday is back" on the trailer... I'm glad the pace was eased (11 eps for 5 vols) and also FAT PRESIDENT
JoJo Fridays return with STEEL BALL RUN JoJo's Bizarre Adventure streaming weekly on Netflix starting on September 25, 2026. jojo-news.com/2026/07/03/s...
You should watch Zeta Gundam for the funny and hilarious stuff that happens, and ZZ for the worldbuilding, story and characters
New trailer for "Sekiro: No Defeat" (movie version). Aside from the animation, I really enjoyed the backgrounds on the big screen at Annecy Festival. Another great piece of work by art director Yuji Kaneko (Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, Heavenly Delusion, Ranking of Kings...).
"Sekiro: No Defeat" is coming in Japanese theaters on September 4. sekiro-anime.jp/news.html#ne...
HxH back and Naoko Yamada back at the same time, we don't deserve this
