It’s not my job to teach people about autism. I do it because the alternative is people: - ‘doing their own research’ - cherry-picking whatever confirms their biases - weaponising that dodgy information to justify treating autistic people badly

I had autistic burnout three years ago that was so extreme that I don’t know if I will ever get back all of the skills I lost. What it did change that I finally got a diagnosis and started having my support needs met. I can’t change my past, but my lived experiences can change other paths.
In case I forget to mention it tomorrow, we will have travelled 16000kms in our BYD Atto 2 and still love it. - It cost half of a Tesla Model Y - Haven’t needed to take it in for service - Didn’t buy a fast charger - Only cost $107.93 in ⚡️for over 2500kms for the month What would you like to know?
Surely Apple News could come up with a price to remove the ridiculous ads.
Deepseek V4 Flash and Qwen 3.7’s api pricing is measured in cents and will require a fraction of the data centres to host it compared to leading US-made frontier models. Not to mention that they are free to download on huggingface right now if you have your own hardware to run it.
Seeing OpenAI deploy GPT 5.6-Sol to slash find efficiency and cut the cost is exactly what we need to see more of. It is also a sign of the maturity of frontier models to be able to find these engineering solutions. Credit where it is due 👏
Halo Campaign Evolved looks and feels so good
Pausing my Claude subscription so I can put money in the piggybank for our Japan trip in September. Let’s see if I bother resubscribing when I come back… or if I even need to with the potential state of open models by that point in time.
Once I finish playing through Halo Campaign Evolved, I’m calling time on my Xbox Game Pass Subscription.
There’s serious performance gains out there for many programs if they swap to Rust. Currently watching Hermes port many components in its own harness to Rust or PyO3 and the speed gains are serious. Also found a reason to try out tokio-rs/topcoat.
Trying to get in some days of Helldivers 2 before Halo Campaign Evolved absorbs my attention for a solid amount of time.
I wonder if Anthropic has trained users to use Opus 5 - Release Fable 5 and set a new ‘top tier’ - Release Sonnet 5 at a sustainable price that makes Opus 4.8 look flat. - Release a new Opus 5 close enough to Fable that it’s like the obvious everyday model.
Really started getting into some harder levels of Helldivers 2 in group missions on the weekend. Really simple formula: Work as a team = we all win. It feels like the antidote to years of Battle Royale and PvP.
While I wait for Kimi K3 to come available in open weight, I decided to give Kimi K2.7 another crack after weeks of being pilled by GLM 5.2 Something must have been wrong when I first tried it, but it deserves another crack at the benchmarks as it has dropped in nicely and is getting things done.
It’s not the place of primary school staff to tell parents that a Year 1 child should be taking ADHD medication, particularly when meaningful reasonable adjustments haven’t even been tried. Medication is not the answer to a school’s failure to support a child on a journey that has barely started.
Yesterday I attended a meetup group and heard heartbreaking stories from autistic peers about being made to hide stims at work for other people’s comfort. Autistic people shouldn’t have to suppress harmless forms of self-regulation just to appear “professional”. That expectation is ableism.
A lot of autistic people make internal rules to help reduce changing expectations and add predictability to unpredictable situations. Unfortunately, sometimes those internals rules can outlast their usefulness, and make us feel weird doing things we are very much allowed to do
'The experiences and data shared here reveal a troubling reality: many talented women surgeons are not simply choosing to leave; they are being systematically forced out by toxic cultures, discriminatory practices, and retaliatory actions.' 🙏 @cornelialg.bsky.social @andreamerrill.bsky.social
The hidden reason many women are leaving surgery: They're being pushed out
On paper, it looks like women are on their way to finally achieving parity in medicine. As of 2024, women comprise 52 % of medical school graduates, and 47 % of general surgery residents are women. ...

I can’t really do this concept that Australia exports this many hundred thousands of tonnes of beef while the domestic retail price of beef feels pretty out of hand. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07...
China has stockpiled 'huge quantities' of frozen beef for this moment
As imports from Australia hit a wall because of large tariffs, China turns to its historically high stockpile of frozen beef.

Story time: How functioning labels were used to deny my request for workplace accommodations, and eventually forced me out of a job that would have been easy for me if I had been properly supported.
New pizza shop opened in my suburb this week 🍕 So popular it has been impossible to order during peak times, with my wife being turned away on Friday night and an hour wait for the people who could. We successfully put in our pre-order a couple of hours ago to dodge the mayhem for tonight.
Grew up in rural village of Linville in Great Depression of 1930's. No home had car or phone & there was no doctor within 100 miles. People died as there was no help. We accepted that as part of life. Now we want govt to fall when 000 does not work.
Honestly not sure I understand the person who gave my elderly uncle a bicycle after he had multiple medical incidents that led to him writing off his car. Sadly no surprise he had fallen off the bicycle. Mum found out he was in hospital when she call authorities to do a welfare check.
I haven’t seen any Python that can’t be rewritten in Rust. Every single time the Rust version will run with such smooth precision that my autistic brain becomes naively confused by why it was ever python-first.
“We’ve heard the feedback that this feature missed the mark” No shit. Allowing people unrestricted usage of people’s posts without seeing these consequences or backlash lacks the nous of even the most of basic risk assessment.

Clicked over 14000kms in our BYD Atto 2 EV today. We love driving this car everywhere. Have to recharge our other car’s 12v battery because it hasn’t been driven enough 😅
