I had nearly 30 years of frequent and totally preventable migraines that left me sick in bed (multiple times a month and sometimes multiple days a week), or forcing myself to attend school and work (with disorientation so intense it was dangerous for me to be out on the road driving, but because I had to work to get paid I forced myself to drive anyway just like I'd been forced to go to school growing up in a similar state).

There is a lot of talk in Neurodivergent spaces about how much relief late-identified Neurodivergent people find when they finally learn the truth about themselves. However, there’s not as much discussion on the pain and grief late identification can bring. Don’t get me wrong, being diagnosed Autistic (and then later ADHD) did bring me relief and was a critical turning point in my life. Yet, early on, as I learned to sit with that new information, joy and relief were not my only (or even primary) emotions. People who join me in this chapter of my life, when I am confident, happy, and proud of my multiply-Neurodivergent identity, might falsely think I’ve always been this way, or that getting here was easy. However, they’re missing out on the first thirty-eight chapters of my life’s story, and nothing could be further from the truth.

Honestly, when I was little, I didn’t think I would live this long (I didn’t really want to either)… but these days I am glad I did. My life seems to only be getting better with age and wisdom. 💕

Do you know who invented the #AskingAutistics hashtag??? It was me. 😇 I created it as a bridge, so non-autistic allies and people who were curious about Autism, but weren’t sure if they were Autistic or not, could ask Autistic people questions. 🩷

Part of my Autistic experience is that I am pretty good at teaching myself how to do things, as long as they catch my interest/involve something I am passionate about. I’m currently teaching myself to draw/paint in Procreate.

What’s something that you are proud of (no matter how small)??? I am proud I learned some new skills this weekend.

Have you ever had a “hate follower”? People who “hate follow” others are a sad bunch. I don’t get it. They seem to be very miserable people. I, personally, much rather follow people I resonate with.

It immediately puts me on alert. It just scans like something Bad is about to come out of this person's engagement with the topic. There are things parents of autistic kids SHOULD talk about! But that specific label too often says "But I'm gonna make their autism all about me." #ActuallyAutistic
