It feels a little strange to see Ricky Gervais act like his whole thing has always been offensive comedy when the show that made him famous was actually rather sweet and the people who were offensive were figures of fun to be mocked. It's like he's misunderstood why people liked The Office.
Today I learned Patrick McGoohan wasn’t British. I knew he was Irish, of course, but I didn’t know he was born in NYC. He had dual US/Irish citizenship. So now I’m looking at THE PRISONER through the lens of being a show made by someone with a sense of the UK as a colonizer and oppressor.
