“The Supreme Court ruled that trans people can be banned from public life and that there’s no limits to how much money can be dumped into politics, but it also ruled 5-4 that birthright citizenship isn’t dead yet so it’s really more good than bad for Democrats”

NEW: Organizers in San Diego are still patrolling immigrant neighborhoods to watch out and inform people about ICE. Over the last year, they've had to come to terms with what they've seen out of Minneapolis, and adapt their training and strategies. Important new reporting out of SoCal:

its so funny seeing people not from sf comment on the house race because if you knew like anyone from the bay they could have told you what was up lmfao

as a hitman fan and as someone who's been watching paul play 007, we've had a lot of fun comparing and contrasting the two. Of course, Paul is much more eloquent and thoughtful about it compared to me in our chats like "meanwhile agent 47 is like. give me a gun"

I've had an interesting feelings about the first few missions of 007 First Light, and I couldn't help but put them in conversation with Hitman in order to process them. This is a little more contemplative and strange than my usual posts but I think it lands somewhere interesting!

its nearly the end of AAPI month so here's some novels ive read that have under 3k ratings on GR by asian authors i think you should read

in general im sort of over using identity politics to be like oh is this book going to be authentic or whatever that is simply not interesting critique to me anymore

its so fucking cringe when people are like omg why isnt this *insert fantasy novel that has any time of similarly historical setting* accurate to real life. its a fucking fantasy fucking novel mate. it doesnt have to be historically accurate.

i suppose as a ""wasian"" im being asked to care about this hullaballoo but really i find all the discourse around this deeply annoying. can everyone be normal.

idk if its just the guy in me who's deeply defensive of CA or whatever but the way i hear people disparage SF makes my hackles raise. like we're allowed to do that because we live here dog.

i dont even really care about z*tara our whatever but sometimes i see people describe some ships as z*tara and i think may in fact fundamentally misunderstand both z*ko, k*tara and why people were drawn to them together lmfao lmfao lmfao

everytime some tech bro makes a embarrassing post and people are like "is SF really like this" its like. of course fucking not its just all the worst people are out here fucking posting

I think the thing is i *have* read white romance authors taking on complex issues in their book! and even discuss the misogyny baked into the hatred for romance books! but using a nonwhite protagonist to do the same thing without mentioning the DEARTH there is in POC in romance publishing? whatever

"In 1902, politicians designed a lifetime ban to “eliminate the darkie as a political factor” in Virginia and guarantee “the complete supremacy of the white race in the affairs of government.”" "As recently as 2016, 22 percent of Black Virginians were barred from voting for life."

"It's Time": Virginia Lawmakers Ask Voters to Repeal Jim Crow-Era Lifetime Ban on Voting - Bolts

Voters will decide this year whether to end Virginia’s uniquely harsh felony disenfranchisement rules. They'll also vote on abortion, gay marriage, and redistricting.
