Following on from my recent posts about Sphagnum mosses, here is the rare Sphagnum skyense, which I found in damp heath in the western Scottish Highlands a few months ago. A big pink-red moss that is unknown (or perhaps I should say "known about, but not yet found"!) outside Britain & Ireland.

The rare and largely pink-red moss Sphagnum skyense in damp heath on a north-facing slope in the western Scottish Highlands. This species has not yet been found outside Britain and Ireland.

Really happy with my recent experience of submitting to ECOSISTEMAS for the 1st time in this new era for the journal. Fast turnaround time (3 mo from submission to publication), 3 excellent reviews which helped me to improve my manuscript. Free to submit, free to read. No doubt I'll submit again.

ECOSISTEMAS is a great option to publish free to read and free to publish (no APC) from the Spanish Ecological Society. We are growing internationally, support us by sending your cool results!

Este fin de semana estuve en Granada en el V Simposio de Botánica de la SEBOT y la verdad que he disfrutado muchísimo! Muy buenos trabajos, gente increíble y un lugar genial 🌿

Individual Sphagnum mosses lack structure and are prone to stress and desiccation. As an intertwined community, they fight off massive wildfires and protect the world’s largest soil carbon stock. They also nonchalantly preserve bog bodies. Learn from Sphagnum. Be the Sphagnum.

A useful reminder of the (many) academic challenges that face people who don't grow up speaking, reading, and writing English.

Do you have a student who is a non-native English speaker #NNES ? A post-doc? A collaborator? Are you a reviewer? It takes years to get to express yourself in a foreign language, if it ever happens The manifold costs of being a non-native English speaker in science journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...
