Une Ă©quipe de chercheurs de JURASSICA (Porrentruy, Suisse) annonce la dĂ©couverte dâune nouvelle espĂšce de daman fossile en ArmĂ©nie. Cette trouvaille exceptionnelle a Ă©tĂ© rendue possible grĂące Ă une collaboration sur le terrain avec lâInstitut des Sciences GĂ©ologiques de lâAcadĂ©mie nationale des sciences dâArmĂ©nie. Elle permet de mieux comprendre Ă quoi ressemblait ce mammifĂšre Ă©nigmatique il y a plus de 3 millions dâannĂ©es, et comment certains mammifĂšres ont voyagĂ© entre lâAfrique et lâEurasie au cours de lâhistoire. Cette nouvelle espĂšce a Ă©tĂ© baptisĂ©e Armenohyrax aznavouriani en hommage au chanteur et ambassadeur dâorigine armĂ©nienne Charles Aznavour, symbole du lien culturel entre lâArmĂ©nie, la francophonie et la Suisse, oĂč il a vĂ©cu. Ce choix souligne Ă©galement lâesprit de coopĂ©ration internationale Ă lâorigine de la dĂ©couverte.
