What’s “wacky” is pretending any child is being castrated when the process of even figuring out they are trans, coming out, and jumping through medical and legal hoops means they’ve grown into full, legal adults by the time any of them can get reconstructive surgery.

I went to grad school with a female circumcision survivor who really changed my view on these issues. So much of it is cultural in a way that people don't really question very deeply.

Everyone has a lot of opinions on Jean Grey in Spider-Man Brand New Day. I think that there's a deeper, more foundational reason people are mad about her.

@rikiwilchins.bsky.social Worth nothing that all these polls using slightly different measures and questions to determine who is trans or gay, but it seems earlier estimates were clearly way too conservative. Also startling that there are about as many trans as gay adults in US.
