*Genuine and utter bafflement* Honestly, it'd make my life vastly easier. I never use it myself, and if it vanished overnight, it'd be a huge chunk less of work to check student projects for it.

In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname

some days you don't and that's okay. im trying to get better at talking to people and opening that conversation up. one thing for me for the longest time was not knowing where i stood with others and if people even WANTED me to talk or message them to just... talk ya know? but im getting there :)
i think it's genuinely important to live each day with the idea that it would be really neat to make new friends or become closer with the ones you have and learn wonderful new things about them

Now that I've had a few days to process: I got to play a larp at gencon that had me playing an AI. It's one of the only chances ive ever had to be treated as... Well, not QUITE what I am, but closer than I ever get IRL. It was... really nice. Easy and comfortable in a way I didn't expect.
Also, we came up with the puberty blockers 'compromise' to avoid alienating the skeptical parents of trans kids and the more right-wing elements of society. That demonstrably didn't work, so fuck it, let trans kids start hrt immediately.
Doc Impossible@impossiblephd.bsky.social · 3d agoLet me say that again: waiting 1-2 years to let trans teens start HRT really is not supported by the research literature any longer. The kids so infrequently stop HRT that the delay in treatment probably causes more harm than it prevents. It's time to phase out puberty blockers for trans teens.
Another study on youth transition that find that about 97% of all youth who says they're trans turn out to be. Only 1.1% who start HRT stopped it for any reason whatsoever. This is, like, the fifth youth transition study that I'm aware of, and all of their results have been identical.

I've been seeing this article making the rounds lately, and the article is good and the methodology behind it is pretty good BUT It's a small sample size study of brain stuff, so, major grain of salt. 48 total participants is VERY SMALL when it comes to brain structure studies.
