Started Ulysses. Have felt a little embarrassed, stupidly, foolishly, that I'd never read it, as an Irish guy who loves books, which is ofc absurd. Also felt the weight of all its cultural import bearing down on me. Fortunately it's just straightforwardly really good and funny so far
You need to get more idiosyncratic. You need to get more specific. You need to become opaque and strange.
Trying to be less snippy so I'm not quoting the post, but ime air travel (and travel in general) has gotten substantially better in the last 30 years if you have limited mobility. They used to be far less accommodating
Pretty funny use of "good faith" here in the context of corporate strategy.
First, and most importantly, anti-data center folks refuse to believe data center developers and tech companies engage in good faith. They have staked out a purely reactionary position. Negotiation is useless. Just reject everything by default. They're playing this as Always Defect.
I would love to explore the "Eighteen Wonders" of Yunnan province
We asked Americans to rate the following statement on a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being “Strongly disagree” and 10 being “Strongly agree”: It’s natural to poison other people to get ahead, either deliberately or by accident, and people who do shouldn’t be penalized too harshly.
This sort of thing is so wonderfully stupid. I wonder how many people can point to exactly what film criticism she should be versed in. I doubt they're thinking of Eisenstein. Should she have watched more Siskel and Ebert before venturing onto this sacred terrain?
the thing is that Wilson seems to not be particularly well-versed in film criticism, which when criticizing a film of the Odyssey is more important than knowledge of the Odyssey.
Psychologically I think I'm extremely ready to be unemployed. But things just aren't lining up that way right now
Journalists love each other so much. It's an eternal soul bond that transcends mere temporal concerns and disagreements
Anthony Bourdain, chuckling: Okay. Okay, let's fucking do this
Scribs are little baby kwama. We shuck the shells, crush the flesh into a jelly. Doesn't taste bad. And filling. Takes a while getting used to the texture, though.
*our plans are measured in centuries voice* i drink my horchata in quarts
The evil of streaming is just the evil of intellectual property law, the Berne Convention expressed as software design. Broadcast TV is an older evil, the evil of a drunken crowd at a bear-baiting.
We used to consume mass culture this way, and now they consume mass culture this way! What gives!
Funny to see the nostalgia for watching whatever was on TV. I still remember the month after I learned to torrent, and was no longer limited to what was on TV, and it was absolutely amazing. Opened up a whole new world. And it's still amazing
It’s a good faith argument drawing from common knowledge. I learned it from the dominant ideology
It’s just common sense bro. It comes free with your mass culture
It would only take a few moments of alacrity for me to scoop up one of the rabbits running around the yards here. And they would probably appreciate that, and accept a pet or two
“Can’t you just make it the way that I like it?” my wife pleads. But I shake my head. Every day is a new flavor.
