Autistic Elder. I raised 2 autistic kids. I teach at a nonpublic autism school.
Taking a child’s preferred item away to make them earn it back with acts of compliance intended solely to make them appear more normal to outsiders is not Applied Behavior Analysis. It is emotional abuse.
Physical abuse is horrific. But emotional abuse gets too little attention. And adult who takes their 2-year-old's bunny, which she uses for self-soothing, is rabidly spiteful.

It’s July. I’m going back for trainings tomorrow because students report back on Monday. Forget about greeting rid of DST. I’d like to return to Labor Day signifying the end of summer. 11 month teaching positions (for the same pay) stink.
@cagovernornewsom.bsky.social I just wanted to let you know that our nonprofit autism school has a hard time hiring behavioral aides because it’s a very hard job with real risks involved, and we are competing with fast food restaurants that pay almost $3 more an hour for their minimum wage.

So my new and exciting brain thing is vestibular migraine. It is trippy. Figuratively and literally. I once saw a dog at the emergency vet who had eaten THC gummies. It was walking at a 45 degree tilt. I couldn’t get how it was standing. I still can’t, but it’s possible!
If you don’t need to use the resources, maybe give a call or write a check.
THREAD OF PLACES TO ACCESS FOOD 🧵 Please spread the word on and off this website, because people are dealing with real hunger issues now.
I mentioned to my son that I was thinking about a cat and he sent me the following picture. I can’t keep a kitten entertained alone, which means I’ll be taking two.

I am scrolling the adoptable cats at the local shelters…the grand kitten left all his stuff here, and it seems such a waste.

This is what it is important to pay attention to. We are watching national news and YouTubers devote time to the reflecting pool while ignoring the impact of a memo about the Olmsted act. As we argue about dramatics, policy change continues.
Remember #Project2025 ? No one really speaks about it & yet it’s decimating #Rights and utterly destroying #America’s #democracy As Planned Did you know it’s over 54% now? We have ONLY 2 years, 3 months, and 19 days until the presidential election. project2025.observer/en
I had a pithy response and then I started thinking… Adolescents have always excelled at communicating cultural rebellion and change. The real problem is that the algorithms then feed that stuff to adults.
We fucked up because we took culture away from kids and fed them algorithms.
Oh. My. God. When my brain says to me, “F**k you, I won’t do what you tell me!”

One thing my mental health journey and working with high support need students has taught me is that two things can be true at the same time. In this autistic household and in my autism class, that’s a tough concept in the moment. Not all things have a singular truth. My truth is not the only one.
My mom is gone and I’ve survived to the geriatric side of 60 where they’ve now learned that HRT is super helpful for ND humans with Executive function issues, so are ADHD stimulant meds, but not after 60, when they could be a problem. I thought I had at least 10 more years until Elder status.
Hill I’m about to die on: (or at least my 61 year old eyes are) Some AI is useful. I know I could figure out the correct way to ask nicely to get exactly what I want. But that takes almost as long as doing it myself. So here I am on Canvas copying and pasting stuff.
Summer break as an empty nester with zero disposable income is leading into a depression spiral. I have not gone anywhere not medical since break started. I am forgetting how to people.
Studying With #Dyspraxia has been out for a week now. I think I look at launches more realistically than I did with my first book, Stumbling Through Space and Time: Living Life With Dyspraxia, because I don't expect instant results, just reach amongst the right people: a slow, gradual process.
You know how you sometimes get a surprise appetizer from the chef because your dinner is delayed? That’s what I’m thinking about this morning.
Well, 71 years is quite a long life for an invertebrate.
We got our grand kitten so much stuff when he was brought home. Then my son moved him out. Now I have cat stuff, but no cat. That just seems wrong. Very wrong. Maybe it’s really Caturday today.
The simplest way to start is by sharing your “I wonder…” moments and encouraging them to do the same.
🤔 Metacognitive self-awareness helps students understand their own learning process. Are we explicitly teaching metacognitive strategies? #LeadInclusion #EdChat #EdTech #SpedChat #SBLchat #Education #EduSky
