Excellent talk by @mbudnikova.bsky.social on crowd sourcing platform engineering. It's all about the culture and bringing people along

Numbers like these show time and again, that a little work on the right thing goes a very long way. @marianeum.bsky.social was very quick to update Monzo's R8 configuration and made the app much more performant along the way. ⚡️
Last year I attended a session on app performance by @keyboardsurfer.dev at @droidcon.bsky.social London and learned about some quick wins we could apply at @monzo.com. Curious about the results and the change? Read here: android-developers.googleblog.com/2026/03/monz...

Monzo boosts performance metrics by up to 35% with a simple R8 update

Not sure if communicating with the upside down or Christmas lights
Don't ignore this tip! We've switched to using the optimized proguard file & shrinking resources in our latest release and have seen a massive drop in all performance related metrics, with slow app launch metrics dropping >30%. All from a 5 minute code change!
Run this and let me know the output: `grep "dontoptimize" app/build/outputs/mapping/release/configuration.txt` In case it's not empty, you definitely should watch this youtu.be/QqO2jZ-NZko?...
We've been using Navigation 3 since early alphas and it's perfect for us. We looked for a navigation solution for a while until nav3 came along - nothing quite fit the bill. Nav3 is the perfect combination of being very flexible and solving the hard problems. Congrats on hitting stable!
Jetpack Navigation 3 is stable! 🎉🎉🎉 Leaning into Jetpack Compose and the idea of combining smaller building blocks together really helped make Nav3 a much more flexible library that made it a joy to work on and hopefully for you to use as well! android-developers.googleblog.com/2025/11/jetp...
Printed myself the best advent calendar 😍 (yes I'm a bit early)
Been working a little on iOS recently and while Android tooling has its issues it is just miles ahead of iOS when it comes to the IDE & build tooling
Going from Disneyland to tube strike London is quite the reality check. At least the crowd levels are similar
If you submitted to the Droidcon London 2025 CfP... First of all, thanks! Second of all, keep an eye on your inbox starting today ;) I'm pretty proud we managed to go through all 343 submissions and have the first emails going out less than a week from the end of the CfP.
How is the Android ecosystem changing? The tags in the @droidcon.bsky.social London CfP submissions paint a very interesting picture! (bars represent actual counts, so both years are on the same scale) Some quick analysis in follow-ups

Continuously iterate and avoid those big bang rewrites. Excellent first talk to kick off #ldc3 by @skamille.themanagerswrath.com
@suhailpatel.bsky.social kicking off the technical strategy track at #LDX3 (squint to see a mini me on the slide)
Kicking off @leaddev.com with an interview about how I got into tech (which will be shown at the conference), dropping stickers into the sticker swap, handing out zines, and bumping into old friends like @marianeum.bsky.social! #LDX3
