BP sponsorde een vooraanstaand onderzoekscentrum aan Princeton om klimaatoplossingen te ontwikkelen zonder af te stappen van fossiele brandstoffen. Onderzoekers presenteerden CO₂-afvang en -opslag vervolgens ten onrechte als een beproefde technologie die al op industriële schaal werd toegepast.

De Telegraaf publiceerde vandaag (weer) schaamteloze transfobe bagger. In de kop staat een citaat van ouders: “Ons kind is verminkt.” Dat “kind”? Een volwassen persoon van 23 jaar. En met “verminkt” doelen ze op de medisch geïndiceerde zorg die artsen aan deze volwassene hebben verleend.

Er zit een Nederlander al 8 maanden in een Egyptische cel, waarschijnlijk omdat hij in Nederland een paar keer bij een Palestina demonstratie was en als student een open brief ondertekende. Zijn werkgever ASML heeft zijn salaris stopgezet. De Nederlandse regering lijkt weinig te doen.

Zelfs factcheckers kunnen weleens een foutje maken, maar als je hele boek draait om het onderscheid tussen waarheid en valse imitaties daarvan, lijkt het me logisch om bij citaten niet op AI te vertrouwen en alles dubbel te checken. Yikes.

De motte-and-bailey is een drogreden waarbij iemand een extreme stelling inneemt, maar zodra er kritiek komt, terugvalt op een veiligere, minder omstreden positie. Zo wordt de kritiek als overdreven of onterecht weggezet, terwijl de oorspronkelijke stelling stilzwijgend overeind blijft.

Update: Markuszio mag nu bij Sven Cock zeggen wat hij bedoelt met 'maximaal geweld'. Hij zegt (surprise) dat hij de marechaussee bedoelde. En dat 'waar ze vandaan komen' niet Palestina/Israël, maar Griekenland is. Ondertussen wordt zijn gore soundbite steeds herhaald: geweld, geweld, geweld.

Aan het inscannen van een fotoalbum van mijn Franse familie. Gezichten verbinden aan namen, namen aan levens. Dit is Léon Armand, neef van mijn betovergrootmoeder. Hij speelde accordeon en werkte in de fabricage ervan in Tulle. In 1944 werd Léon opgehangen door de SS, samen met 97 andere burgers.
