I actually tried taking a game design course as a side thing in university and dropped it because all they talked about was World of Warcraft, Angry Birds, and, almost as a token acknowledgement, Super Mario Bros. I wrote about my experience with Mass Effect 2 and got genuine fluoride stares
RockettPowered@misterrockett.bsky.social · 2d agoWestern game devs are taking classes that teach with a philosophy of "japanese game bad" and are internalizing it without examining if that's the way people actually interact with these games that's the only explanation I can give.
I'm gonna throw up. The most reasonable uses for this already have existing non-ai solutions. 'We used it for the crowd greeble texture in the distance' feels like the artists appeasing the boss to me.

Fun fact: "Reviewing an AI made translation" is more work for translators than just translating it themselves, because AI translations do not pass the sniff test beyond the most superficial. It's a loophole companies use as an excuse to underpay translators, and nothing else.

with all the recent vibecoded/ai ports and decomps/recomps in the homebrewing communities that have been showing up lately, i been kinda steppkng away from looking into these you cant even criticize it or else you'll be crossed out as the "anti ai mob" and someone who "hates progress"

This book seems to be the epitome of what my girlfriend likes to call "The Super Smash Bros. version of gaming history" In other words, being viewed through a VERY Nintendo-centered lense.
I dislike Mario being reduced to "no one takes this universe seriously so it's fine to just shove random crossovers into literally every instance of the IP". Mario has thousands of characters that will never see the light of day but we can afford slots in the games & MOVIE for star fox fuuuck youuuu
