Chairman of the Estonian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee. A former journalist and Moscow correspondent who covered the First Chechen War. Sharing thoughts and opinions on international security issues.

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service claimed that Ukraine, together with the UK,is preparing "sophisticated provocations" in the Baltic Sea ❗️Russia openly states that it is afraid of Ukrainian attacks in the Baltic Sea Just think:from "Kyiv in3 days" in 2022 to ⤵️

The only peace strategy in Ukraine 🇺🇦 is a VICTORY strategy. The Western consensus must shift from the dead-end stance of "Ukraine must not lose and Russia must not win" to a clear victory strategy: "Ukraine wins, Russia loses." Simple, clear, and a guarantee for a just peace.

We are not moving in the right direction. Keeping Europe and the US united is important, but playing Putin’s game will not bring the peace that Ukraine—and all of us—need. Europe and the US must step up NOW and apply real pressure on Russia. An aggressor should not be allowed to demand anything!

Estonia 🇪🇪 is ready to contribute a company-sized unit to the deterrence force of the coalition of the willing, led by the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 and France 🇫🇷, which provides security guarantees to Ukraine 🇺🇦.

This cartoon published yesterday on the website of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) says more than a thousand words. Russia's long-standing strategic goal is to destroy Western collective defense in the form of NATO, entice the USA to leave Europe, and then Finlandize Europe.

This Baltic scenario by @carlomasala1.bsky.social is worth discussing beyond the German-speaking audience. Especially in light of the mistaken presumptions about Ukraine’s and Russia’s respective capabilities pre-2022 and the policy mistakes that resulted, it’s important to get our premises right

Besonders die Einleitung des Artikels ist wichtig. Ich frage mich die ganze Zeit: warum sollte Putin warten, bis Europa sich besser verteidigen kann? ME ist das einzige, was ihn noch aufhält, der ukrainische Widerstand.

105 years ago today, by signing the Tartu Peace Treaty, Russia declared that it would respect the sovereignty of Estonia forever. 20 years later, Russia occupied Estonia. If anyone believes that Russia is ready to honor treaties in Ukraine or elsewhere today, then prepare for a great war.

Both the outgoing Biden and the newly inaugurated Trump have been consistent in their statements: the United States does not want a Third World War. But what has been done to achieve this? As of now, almost nothing. What is needed is the determination of Winston Churchill in defeating evil.
