Julian sits slumped against a bed, looking exhausted, with messy medium-length hair and a rosary hanging around his neck. The rosary in this illustration appears far larger than it normally does, covering the length of his torso to show that its an accessory he had to grow into.

His legs are covered in extensive bandages, and his arms are also wrapped. Isaac is mostly out of frame, but his tattooed arm and hands are visible as he tends to Julian's injuries.

The bed has two pairs of restraints with chains attached to it, while the cracked stone walls behind Julian are covered with crosses, crucifixes, and paper talismans covered in religious writing.

Great article about why kink art is so important

It hadn't occurred to me that this might be more than a strange personal thought experiment until I saw a depiction of self-flagellation in the movie "A Nun's Story" and decided to try whipping myself with a belt. My reaction was sexual, rather than spiritual.
With no knowledge of how to frame any deviation from the sexual norm other than
to label it as a sin, I assumed this discovery meant I was evil and that l should probably kill myself. Fortunately for me, the Jehovah's Witnesses also had a lot to say about the sin of suicide, so l remained alive, guilt-wracked, attempting denial of who and what I was, and thoroughly unhappy.

I still didn't consider the possibility that there might be people in the real world who liked this kind of thing, and that they might not have anything wrong with them at all. Until the following year, when I stumbled into an art gallery and found myself confronted by wall upon wall covered in BDSM artwork.
It was electrifying. I saw sculptures depicting submissive women, with no suggestion that they might be mentally unwell. I saw photographs of dominant men and women, with no implication that they might be murderers or rapists. For the first time in my life, I saw my sexuality represented without being pathologized.
The relief of it still resounds in my mind, 21 years later.

I realized that by producing this work, I could let people like the person l'd once
been know that their kinks were OK, too.
They could see my photographs, and they'd know they weren't alone.
I wished I could send some of them back in time to my 18-year-old self, to show her that there was nothing wrong with her after all.

Minor complaint as a chronically ill person: I've lost multiple Fortnite matches this morning (like had to drop the controller mid match a run) because my stomach is trying to toilet lock me for no reason. This is why I mostly play single player games. The ability to pause is paramount.

This. Was recently talking about how I never see people outside the movies in deep-ass discussions about the movie they just watched. Purity culture/ media illiteracy got people unable to analyze media beyond a literal sense, which inturn encourages the watering down of and censorship of said media.
