PC advice anyone? My 7 year old laptop is unable to upgrade to Windows 11 and is starting to slow down a bit. But still works OK. (Huawei Matebook Ryzen 5 8GB 256GB Laptop). Do I pay for extended support? Or might I still be able to upgrade anyway, how do I tell?

P.S. If anyone might like to hire me for anything in 2027 – writing, game/system/narrative design, editing, project management, event production, research, documentation wrangling, crafts, etc – then please do give me a shout! My cornucopia of skills runneth over and I like variety in my work.

PSA for anyone else who still assumes that a Test match will start on a Thursday: the England v Pakistan men's test has started today EVEN though it is WEDNESDAY. Good start for England so far.

The sea here is nearly 21 degrees, yesterday it felt actually warm getting in, we have loads of jellies probably as a result - I love them even though one stung me yesterday, only lightly, but still they are a sign of warming seas. Still only July.

So many, but evacuating the office on a data entry job where someone had left a bomb threat via a voicemail that had sat there for two days. Police car screeched into the car park where we were all waiting, coppers raced out and... asked if an employee could go back in to see if anything was amiss

what are some absurd work situations you can share? once i got called into a meeting i had nothing to do with because the consultant brought an engineer and no one in the room could understand him, so they asked me to translate. he was scouse. i translated from english to english.

Is there anything better in life than pottering about the garden with Test Match Special on? I don't even mind that we are almost certainly about to lose. When we get to hot we are going to drive to the beach and run into the sea. Heaven.

Good news! Ministers have finally given green light to new #NaturalHistory GCSE. We’ve campaigned so long for this! Big hats off to tireless advocate Mary Colwell 🙌 Now our young people will have a chance to get to know & love the natural world, to feel awe & wonder, & gain skills to protect it 🌷🌳🦡

What's good on Shudder? Got the 7 day trial to watch Deathstalker based on this review www.theguardian.com/film/2026/ap... and, well, I did enjoy its particularly brand of daft 80s style sword-based fantasy horror but 4 stars is pushing it. Also watched Hell House LLC and was underwhelmed.

Deathstalker review – ludicrously enjoyable revisit of 80s swords-and-sorcery silliness

Inventive creature design, goopy practical effects and a metal guitar soundtrack make this reworking of a Roger Corman fantasy a treat for one’s inner child
