As a public servant, I write weekly notes to let people see what I do. I joined the #ServiceStandard team’s onsite in my week 222. I invited people to upcoming training, worked on guidance and helped prepare peer reviews. I also met with the #accessibility testing team of the @itzbund.bsky.social.

Using genderize.io is fascinating – in the cases I spot-check, it’s often so wrong. I understand that its confidence score depends on potentially limited datasets, but I wouldn’t feel confident using their API for bulk handling. The result could be very embarrassing.

As a public servant, I write weekly notes to let people see what I do. In week 221, I returned to work after a short summer vacation. I worked with the now much larger #ServiceStandard team on guidance, an interactive learning feature, peer reviews, and community engagement.

Public accountability post again 👀 I currently have 3 blog posts in the making: 1. On open roadmaps and how they create transparency in service development 2. From 1 to 51: how we grew the design & user research discipline 3. Putting values into practice—in the design & user research discipline

Every once in a while, I pass this laundry truck on my way to work. Today, I had to wait at a red light. 🚲 📸 I like its simple ‘Full Service’ branding. Made me almost replace ‘end-to-end service’ lingo the other week. In another European country, I recently spotted an English version, too.

A small white truck loading a laundry rack in front of a Neo-classicist building; on the side, the truck has a big pink foil applied saying: ‘Full Service’, in smaller type: “hygiene, mattresses, fire safety, work clothes, clean room, health & care — call us” with the web address CWS.com

Bad service or a mediocre scam? I received a message, apparently from AVIS. This made me cautious: 1. Unknown contact 2. Different channel w/o notification* 3. Not referring to my name 4. Not referencing my booking number 5. Not referencing the booked time 6. Pointing to an address out of town

Screenshot of a business message on WhatsApp, saying: “Groupo Barchetti, phone number from Italy, not a contact, business account” — with 2 buttons: block and add;

The message reads: “Good morning,

Regarding your car rental reservation with Avis scheduled for tomorrow, 14 July 2026, we would like to inform you of the address of our new rental location in Ortisei:

CARROZZERIA DA TONI
Via Pontives 26/F
39040 Laion, Italy

Your vehicle can be collected from this new location at the same time as originally booked.

Thank you,

The Avis Team”

From 0 to 50: Today, we spoke about how we grew and specialised our discipline at @digitalservice.bund.de, now including 24 UX/UI designers 10 user researchers 7 service designers 4 content designers 3 communication designers 1 legal designer – and what we have in common and what sets us apart.

Several people, mostly women, sitting in a modern office space with a big television behind them — it shows a poster that reads “Problem first, solution second” with the caption “We first understand the problem and then build the right thing”, one woman with curly hair is speaking, the others look at her

Advice for applicants in the interview phase: Avoid AI slop in our interview slides, and don’t speak like a large-language model either. It doesn’t get you further.

As a public servant, I write weekly notes to let people see what I do. In week 218, I participated in the presentation of a paper on common digital identity components and how they work in practice. I also worked on standard training, supported a qualitative study, and discussed spend controls.

As a public servant, I write weekly notes to let people see what I do. Week 217 brought the UCD discipline together for the yearly summer offsite. It’s bigger than ever, which demanded some collective reflection and sensemaking. During the week, I reviewed a paper and interviewed candidates.

“Departments treated these websites as communications products rather than services, which meant they did not need to meet GOV.UK’s Service Standard.” Strong investigation into #govdesign #accessibility by @contentdesign.london: ‘What 6 FOI requests reveal about government campaign websites’

What 6 FOI requests reveal about government campaign websites

Our investigation found inconsistent evidence about who government websites are for, whether they work for disabled people, and how departments measure success.
