SIMs have forced us to move to their online version. The existing version works perfectly well, does all the stuff classroom teachers need it to do fairly easily, and most importantly it's very familiar. The online version is horrible, and much harder to use.

How is it more stressful now that we're ahead?

I am currently driving a black car with leather seats and no air conditioning. The 5 minute drive back home from the supermarket has left me dripping with sweat. I really hope my normal car passes the MOT tomorrow so I can give this monster back.

Exercise books are so temptingly inspectable. You can flick through & feel you’ve seen learning. But full pages, neat titles, coloured pens and polished paragraphs are, at best, proxies. The more beautiful a book is often the less evidence of learning it provides. open.substack.com/pub/daviddid...

The best way to develop soft skills in the classroom is to teach them concrete curriculum material. Soft skills grow and develop when we interact with other humans in a normal way. Not when we practice having normal conversations in a weird artificial way.

Sports Day. Back when I was HoD I had an NQT who was a Y8 form tutor. A Polish girl called Martha moved into her class. Martha was a perfectionist who found peer relationships tricky. She needed everything to be perfect and predictable which is, I think, why she preferred adults.

Had a really good morning of inset with @trythisteaching.bsky.social He was really engaging, but also filled my head with accessible and impactful strategies to apply in the classroom. Looking forward to putting things into practice. Not all CPD is bad!
