The schedule for talks at QEC26 is now up on our website: qec-conference.org/2026/schedule The earlybird registration deadline is tomorrow, so sign up now! Looking forward to seeing you all in Santa Barbara

Registration is now open for QEC26, to be held this June in sunny Santa Barbara, CA! See the registration page at qec-conference.org for a link. Also, the deadline for submissions is next Friday. Make sure to get those in and spread the word to friends and collaborators!

Coming out of social media hibernation to ask: Are you interested in hosting a future QEC conf? We are looking for detailed bids for QEC27 over the next month (provisional deadline 21st November). For more info: DM or email me. QEC26 will be in Santa Barbara

For their student researcher-ship, Satoshi Yoshida extended our work on dynamic surface code circuits to color codes. They built and simulated iswap color code circuits and wiggling color code circuits. The iswap circuits use fewer entangling layers than CX circuits! arxiv.org/abs/2510.00370

Low Depth Color Code Circuits with CXSWAP gate

We present two new types of syndrome extraction circuits for the color code. Our first construction, which after [M. McEwen, D. Bacon, and C. Gidney, Quantum 7, 1172 (2023)] we call the semi-wiggling ...

My fav new features are the glorious I_ERROR, II, and II_ERROR instructions. While on their face they seem nuts, they're really helpful for representing operations that stim can't simulate, but can still know are noisy or have 2Q targets. I_ERROR[LEAKAGE](p) anyone?

Just released stim v1.15 (github.com/quantumlib/S...) Probably the most important change is instructions can now be tagged with arbitrary strings (for custom tools that want to smuggle info into circuits). Also, now all 24 single qubit Clifford rotations have names.

Circuits Galore! Check out our latest work demonstrating three new circuits for implementing the surface code: arxiv.org/abs/2412.14360 They all perform well below threshold on a device optimised for the standard surface code, but they each open up wild new possibilities for devices.

🌳 Excited to introduce Willow, Google Quantum AI’s latest chip. Willow 5x’s coherence times, beats the Surface Code QEC threshold, and the time to reproduce Willow's RCS on Frontier supercomputer is estimated at 10^25 years⏳! 👇 thread #Quantum #Physics #Science blog.google/technology/r...

Meet Willow, our state-of-the-art quantum chip

Our new quantum chip demonstrates error correction and performance that paves the way to a useful, large-scale quantum computer.
