I write Extra Points, a newsletter about off-the-field stories in college sports. I also (badly) make computer games, woodworking projects, and jokes. Chicago.

Okay this is a rare PR announcement that I'm suddenly very interested in. UTRGV has their own new gatorade like this...which other schools used to do? I want to know everything about the Rutgers knockoff Gatorade

HUSKERADE?!?

@spacedragon.bsky.social this might be a bit random, but are any of the meetups/activities in your ChicagoAnime group okay for kids? This world isn't really my scene, but my 12-year old has gotten REALLY into anime/manga, and I'd love to be a Cool Dad and help connect with her on this stuff

lmao so I apparently have a torn ligament, which is why I can barely walk, but my insurance does not cover a single orthopedic specialist within 100 miles! Boy I love the United States of America's health system!

Is it bad if you wake up and your knee is so sore and stiff that you can’t bend it or walk and all the physical therapy places are booked for a few days? Asking for somebody who isn’t me Guess I don’t have to do yard work at least

A research question I'm kicking at that perhaps folks smarter than I may have already started. we know that university budgets are much, much larger than athletic department budgets. What kind of schools have reported athletic revenue being the largest percentage of total university revenue?

I dont think Marisa is wrong here, but its also weird to watch some of this obsession while living in a place that does NOT have anything close to an amateur sport ecosystem for women. Like, my kids couldn't do sports even if they wanted to for *years*, which makes this debate feel even more insane?

the obsession with trans women in sports is, apart from the abject bigotry, a symptom of how we take amateur sports participation way too seriously in this country.
