Got to see Northwestern’s new Ryan Field last night. Strong mid-tier-but-affluent Premier League vibes, plus the overhanging upper decks of an old baseball stadium (Tiger/Comiskey etc.) minus the obstructed views below. Completely different, and you can see where the $875 million went.

At a former employer, the-then CEO once told an employee forum that “a good website is expensive,” the implication being we couldn’t afford it. That was a few months before going into bankruptcy.
Chris Vannini@chrisvannini.com · 2w agoThe least-talked-about factor in the decline of local news and reading is how horrible and unusable so many of their websites are. It's just the truth, and it's been awful for a decade, so people moved on.
I read an interesting Reddit thread (I know) about how gaming seems to keep chasing this imaginary customer who like, loves RPGs but they are TOO COMPLICATED so let's water things down. And then the game fails because it lost its actual customer in the process. This feels like that
Rodger Sherman@rodger.bsky.social · 2w agoIt sucks that ESPN is choosing to pay a small handful of personalities $50 million a year and cutting costs elsewhere. I’m sure they have data saying those guys move the needle but it feels like a long-term disaster to invest everything in 3-5 guys when you could fund a robust media ecosystem

A quick word on Taco Bell: That's where we found the suspected lettuce, and it's not bc Taco Bell is gross. It's bc Taco Bell is REALLY GOOD at tracing product! Keeping track of exactly where they got their ingredients, & exactly what restaurants each shipment of ingredients went to!
I appreciate the mention of Baby Driver, which asked the important question "What if we made a movie without bothering with any acting?" But I have to say The Men Who Stare at Goats was worse. It's harder to make a bad movie with Clooney and Bridges and Ewan McGregor than it is to make a good one.
