Now that the Michigan races have been called, we should take a moment to remember not to read too much into early fragmentary reports of results. That applies to me too--I celebrated that Donavan McKinney was up by 32 points. But that was with only 2% of the vote in. Counting takes time.
Look, when the votes from Marquette County get counted, you might call ME the next Senator from Michigan. (Admittedly, it’s unlikely, since I'm not running...but the world can be a weird place!)

I'm struck by the way that social work organizations, which love to point to high-profile social workers, rarely "claim" Michael Schwerner. He was an MSW student for a year, but grew frustrated at the program's neglect of root causes of poverty. Then he gave his life addressing those root causes.

Stumbled on a post that started "My most unpopular opinion is," followed by a long thread offering a sorta contrarian take on something adjacent to the news. Almost got sucked into replying before realizing that it was engagement-farming. And really, who has time for that?
Great article. In 2021, I was hospitalized with idiopathic pericarditis (which IS an inflammation). More than one Facebook friend prodded me about whether I ate “inflammatory” foods. It was unhelpful, to put it mildly. I imagine the number would be much higher today thanks to MAGA grift.

I’m older than I was a couple of days ago. I suppose that’s always true, but this is one of those times when there’s a new number to go with it.
It's especially galling that Haley Stevens is portraying herself as the great protector of the Jews in her campaign against a Muslim candidate, given that in 2022 she beat a wonderful Jewish Congressman in a costly primary in part by accusing him of being insufficiently pro-Israel.

Covid killed over 1.2 million people in the US in its first few years and sickened far more. It's still circulating. Tony Fauci--and so many of other public health workers--avoided untold death and illness through mitigation and vaccination. These are established facts, whatever GOP Senators say.
So in the absence of much communication from the FDA or CDC, is there guidance around lettuce at this point? Do epidemiologists have any sense of whether the recalls have been effective, and what the risk of cyclospora is now?

“Coastal elites” is an antisemitic dog whistle. I’m sure some people are already reciting in their heads how that’s not true. And I will concede that it’s not ONLY that. But it absolutely means, in part, “those New York Jews.” Us cosmopolitan types who are thought to look down on the volk.
If someone is a finalist for a job as a professor, they’ve come for a campus visit that’s at least a day long, with meetings and at least one presentation. And I can say from frustrating experience that not all schools send a finalist an email.
