I've been in UX for 40+ years (I started at Apple). Recently, I've been working on bringing UX to FOSS projects, and I see this attitude far too often (but not always!). It's terribly exciting to see this thread get so much support and love. There is hope yet.

if your response to “users aren’t dumb, they have their own motivations and incentives and it’s good to try to understand those when you make software you want people to use” is “well actually, users are dumb” I’m sorry, but you are part of the problem

𝗪𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 We are so excited to share the first design ideas for the @openhomefoundation.org Device Database! We build in the open, and that means sharing work before it is finished. So here it is: a clickable prototype of the Device Database, and we would love your thoughts on it.

Experiment time 🧪 Just bought a NAS to experiment with local backups of my iCloud photos and documents. First test: Parachute Backup to pull everything down. So far, so good! Next experiment on the list: trying @immichapp.bsky.social for photo management 📸 Let’s see how far this setup can go.
