Chicagoan in love with urban ruins, labor history, poems, and where I live. she/her

It is truly something to witness the abject cowardice of these senators approving corruption after the last year seeing with my own eyes the utter bravery and courage displayed by my neighbors in Chicago and friends in Minnesota to put themselves in harms way to protect their neighbors.

I do not like when the nerds who post graphs on here are all going "oof" and "jesus christ" at the same time

Documents we obtained show offsite medical providers treated people in immigration detention for dehydration, starvation, and injuries to the head. The records raise new questions about the conditions and the medical care available to people in detention. americanoversight.org/ice-va-medic...

24-hour critters of note report between Bridgeport and McKinley: two baby skunks, several bats, one coyote, one belted kingfisher fighting with a juvenile green heron, so many black crowned night herons, double-breasted cormorants, lots of kooky bugs and turtles.

We need to call for people to really examine at the violence at the US border as it’s been this way for decades. It came for us the past year and a half in major cities far away from it, lashing out at many innocent people being injured and killed - just like how it is there.

My background, though, is in witnessing the direct results of prevention through deterrence, seeing people dying in the desert, people suffering in the desert, people getting chased and scattered by Border Patrol.

When I see the border wall, I think about the time I came across a guy who had fallen from the top and had broken his leg, and there was this huge piece of bone sticking out of his leg. I think about how we had to give him medical care through the wall, and how people were reaching between the bollards to try to put an emergency splint on his leg. And there was no way for the Mexican medics to get to him, and there was no way for medics on the U.S. side to get to him, and Border Patrol refused to get him out from the other side, so he just stayed there for like 15 hours, with a bone sticking out of his fucking leg. We had to wait for Border Patrol to leave, then someone used an angle grinder to cut through the wall to pull the guy through. I think about that, and I think about all the people who've fallen off the wall, all the people who've died.

“This is all intentional. The reason the wall is 30 feet tall is to make it more deadly to fall off it. So honestly, I don’t like to even think in terms of what their strategy might be, because really, who gives a shit, you know? Their strategy is to make people suffer and die.”

you cannot start a breaking news alert with “A helicopter carrying President Trump” without dumping a gallon of serotonin into my bloodstream. please be more careful with words

This is absolutely who is in power within the Republican Party at this time. White supremacists are firmly at the helm and there should be absolute opposition to the theory of bipartisanship with these people who want to further the goal of ethnic cleansing in our country.
