Recovering teacher

I used to read @kaaauthor.bsky.social’s The One and Only Ivan to my 4th graders every year when I was a teacher. I just read The One and Only Ruby, and y’all, I’d have SOBBED in front of 27 ten year olds if this had been written back then.

It is 11:30pm, everyone is in bed, and the silence is broken by my seven year old loudly singing “who let the dogs out” from down the hall

If somebody ever invented the Eternal Sunshine memory machine, I would use it exclusively to read books again for the first time

Ok I get the benefits of the nuclear block and the general blocking culture, but damn if it isn’t disappointing to get to the top of a vague but obviously drama filled thread and think you’re about to understand it only to see that the initial post is blocked

@fondalee.bsky.social’s The Last Contract of Isako is simultaneously an enormously rewarding stand alone novel, and also immediately at the top of the list of books I’d love to get a sequel, or another story set in that world. Every bit of it built to a well earned, satisfying end. Go read it!

Look, I get that we should all be informed and democracy is participatory, but in any decent timeline, I should not know so many federal judges by name

Just finished reading @zachweinersmith.bsky.social’s Sawyer Lee and the Quest to Just Stay Home to my kids. Best read aloud ever, my kids even picked more chapters over YouTube. If someone kidnapped YouTube and their mother, they might pay the YouTube ransom first. That’s how good the book is.

Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the Second Coming is at hand. The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert A shape with lion body and the head of a man, A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun

Lion-O from “Thundercats”

Because god for-fucking-bid there exist a blank space somewhere that isn’t covered in advertising, tonight’s fortune cookies feature an ad from a personal injury attorney on the back of the fortune. Which honestly makes the whole thing seem vaguely threatening.

Zohran Mamdani: "If you are a Mario Kart fan, government is Yoshi and philanthropy is the Golden Mushroom, that edge we need to beat Bowser on the Rainbow Road. To belabor this metaphor even further, Bowser is corporate greed in this scenario."
