I used to read @kaaauthor.bsky.social’s The One and Only Ivan to my 4th graders every year when I was a teacher. I just read The One and Only Ruby, and y’all, I’d have SOBBED in front of 27 ten year olds if this had been written back then.

When I was a kid, I could hear the TV turned on with nothing playing from upstairs and across the house, and it would keep me awake. Losing that has been one sort of nice side effect of aging.

@fondalee.bsky.social’s The Last Contract of Isako is simultaneously an enormously rewarding stand alone novel, and also immediately at the top of the list of books I’d love to get a sequel, or another story set in that world. Every bit of it built to a well earned, satisfying end. Go read it!
