Another year playing in the 11 Day Power Play to raise money to fight cancer! I know times are uncertain right now, but if you’re in a position to donate to me and the team I would appreciate it. As always I have donated the initial $250 to kick things off. #SignalBoost

I need your support! I am playing in the #11DPP Community Shift this summer. It will be a grueling three hour shift but nothing compared to what cancer patients endure. Please support me to #PutCancer...

For people who have a lot of dev boards: would you want a form factor that let you put them in a eurorack/modular case? I honestly don't know how many other people have multiple dev boards floating around projects concurrently, or how many other people end up with "desk spaghetti" like me.
I'm giving away EVERY Masters set EVER! It's Masters Masters! I'm giving TEN PEOPLE each one box of Masters from the entire history of Masters sets as a thank you! Just donate in multiples of $4.00 to @translifeline.bsky.social until Feb 15 at 11am PST! Donate---> give.translifeline.org/tolarian
If someone has the corresponding image from the other side of the viewmaster reel, i would be happy to make this viewable in 3D, as nature intended.
If you live in one of these 10 states (AZ, TX AR, MS, FL, GA, TN, KY, IN, OH), today is THE LAST DAY you can register to vote. Even if you think you're registered already, double check to see if your registration is still active. Please do this, it only takes a few minutes. Pass it on.
Gov. Abbott and AG Paxton are bragging about having “scrubbed” the voter rolls—and the deadline to (re)register is Oct. 7. CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION TODAY. teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #23,602! This is what distributed systems should look like on the modern Web. Congrats bsky team!
DMs on Bluesky will not be "end-to-end encrypted" until we are able to do some more protocol work. We have very careful access controls within our systems. If you're extremely privacy conscious, I'd recommend using Bluesky DMs to share your Signal accounts!
My hot take is that I wish Bluesky didn’t add native DMs, even as an upgrade path to future e2ee. Granted, Bluesky devs+leadership have been absolutely crushing it and I don’t know what I’m talking about regarding social media feature roadmaps, so more power to them.

Forget A TikTok Ban, We Need To Regulate Data Brokers And Pass A Real Privacy Law
We’ve noted for a while now how the great TikTok moral panic of 2023 is largely a distraction. It’s a distraction from the fact we’ve refused to meaningfully regulate dodgy data b…

This is the angle that always intrigued me about China’s potential data collection on Americans. There’s all this panic about TikTok, but what’s stopping China from doing what the NSA does and just buying data from private brokers?
NY has held hundreds of people in prison past their release dates, sometimes adding years onto their prison sentences, under a law called the Sexual Assault Reform Act that legislators are too cowardly to alter or repeal. @chrisgelardi.bsky.social explains in @thenation.com/ @nysfocus.bsky.social:
They Were Supposed to Be Free. Why Are They Locked Up?
No one wants a person convicted of a sex offense in their neighborhood. So New York keeps them in prison long past their release dates.

I’d just like to point out that the $25 savings bond Dr. F gave to TV’s Frank in the “Santa Claus” MST3K episode matures this year. Enjoy your $25, Frank!
Oregon cartoonists, DO THIS! Why wouldn't you? (I won in 2022 and it's a pretty spectacular feeling)

Thanks @wyden.senate.gov , the NDAA is far (far!) from perfect, but not discriminating against past Marijuana usage is a common sense step in the right direction.

Congress should pass a law making Justice Alito ride circuit, just to show it can
This can't just be one of those things that people shrug off. Advertisers need to be asked, directly and repeatedly, why they're *funding* the distribution of CSAM. Because that's what they're doing.
I'm getting a lot of questions about this so let me set the record straight: I do not support KOSA. While I share the goal of wanting to make the internet safer for kids, letting extremist governors decide what content is safe for children online is not the way to do it.
@edmarkey.bsky.social shame on you!!! Why are you supporting this freedom destroying bill!? You are in office thanks to the efforts of very online young people and this is how you repay us?
People in the U.S., click this link and ask your representatives in the House and Senate to oppose the misleadingly-named and anti-LGBTQ "Kids Online Safety Act"
Tell the Senate: KOSA Will Censor the Internet But Won't Help Kids
The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) would censor the internet and would make government officials the arbiters of what young people can see online. It will likely lead to age verification, handing more ...

A linguist wrote a book about emojis, but then realized that the book couldn't depict the actual emojis...because copyright. So instead she included URLs for the actual images in the footnotes (??) & wrote this protest note: https://bit.ly/3q2ktug

Last week, users reported an account that used a slur as its handle. We’re sorry that this handle slipped through. Our Black community deserved better. As an open social network, we strive to be transparent. Read this for more details. https://bsky.app/profile/safety.bsky.app/post/3k35dxtz2e22h
On July 12, an incident led to the implementation of a combined automated and human filtering system for user handles. This letter to the community describes what happened and what we’re going to do moving forward: https://blueskyweb.xyz/reports/2023-07-22-letter
