Direct, full-time jobs opening Rosebank oilfield would create: 450 D, f-t jobs opening Jackdaw gasfield would create: 27 D, f-t jobs in UK's net-zero economy: 300,000 + 400,000 more on the way D, f-t jobs in the rest of the green economy: 600,000 Is that really the hill Burnham wants to die on?

Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.

I'm a bit too old for festivals! But not too old to know that @greenparty.org.uk and @scottishgreens.org are a real alternative to the same old, stale old parties. And they don't survive on dodgy 'donations' either! Vote Green for fairness, equality and a cleaner environment!

Thank you to Green Gathering - such a wonderful weekend! I'll be at lots of other festivals this summer - we're building our movement and creating an alternative to the old party politics. Join.greenparty.org.uk

It’s not just permission to drill for fossil fuels in currently licensed fields. We need to change from a material growth mentality to focus on redistribution & well-being. Creating non-elected growth corporations which elide challenge should be dropped. @annpettifor.bsky.social @greenparty.org.uk

Open letter to the PM on Rosebank & Jackdaw oil and gas fields, covered in the Guardian: www.theguardian.com/environment/... Full letter here: climateuncensored.com/letter-to-th...

Quote from the letter - the link is in the post.

Decent column, but this is not what happened. What happened is that the same petrostate bad actor (Russia) has successfully deployed the tactics it used to hijack U.S. politics against the U.K. GOP=UKIP=Putin. Goal is defeating renewables & doubling down on fossil fuel dependence.

As wildfires rage, the right’s denial of the climate crisis has gone up in smoke The effects of extreme weather, be it fires or drought, are all too real. The need for an environmental consensus is one that transcends politics, writes Will Hutton https://bit.ly/4brP2xU

Spain is demonstrating how the #energytransition can be achieved whilst bringing down electricity prices. With the massive expansion of wind and solar energy, Spain is now one of the cheapest electricity markets in EU. Gas rarely determines the price there; #renewables supply 60% of the electricity

As the UN Secretary General says, every new fossil fuel project approved today makes tomorrow’s heatwaves more dangerous & our world less secure. I hope Andy Burnham is listening. Caving in to the fossil fuel lobby as the planet burns would be unforgivable
