Los Angeles-based filmmaker. West Philadelphia, born and raised. Art's the only thing that'll save you. Here to share some of it I like with you. He/him.

Dial Code Santa Claus (1989) - Has the soul of a warped expressionistic take on a child's world shaken by the perversion of their most innocent sanctity of the spirit of Christmas, in a body made out of 80s action/horror schlock, and somehow works. Hilarious "Eye of the Tiger" knock-off theme.

13 Frightened Girls (1963), William Castle does Obayashi's House in the more proper sale: a genre experiment tailored to meet young women on their level while being a fun and well-produced adventure. An unserious Bond-ish plot but constantly well-composed and I found the female solidarity touching!

Watched "You Can't Win" on kanopy (also on tubi) because it's a Robinson Devor film that was filmed in 2012 and shelved, probably too early to be the streaming novelty it can be now (especially with poster-clad much younger Garner and White who are in it for about a minute or two each). 1/2

If you're some established director and you're now becoming a vocal supporter of AI, may I suggest instead to: - Shut the fuck up - Cram a sock in it - Stuff your piehole - Give your connections and opportunities to younger, less-privileged filmmakers with energy and hope - Put your tongue in a vice

Watching "Carnival in the Night." There's probably some Japanese salaryman equivalent of a Harry Dean Stanton who's got an incidental credit in every 70s-80s indie Japanese movie as just a random guy on the street going to work.

"Art, even low art, is sacred enough in construct that you don't have to degrade your soul's reaction to it by getting into discourse on a whole social media site of bad actors and otherwise cretins." - Pauline Kael to me via a Ouija board en regard to Odyssey X takes

I think about how quickly Uncut Gems got outdated by the rise of public sports gambling and prediction markets, but also shout out to Clouds of Sils Maria where an actually working non-AI slop ridden version of Google Images makes a consistent appearance.

The Gumball Rally (1976) posits a utopia where those with extensive means and privilege above the law decide to do a Wacky Races when they're bored instead of strip the copper wiring out of America. A fun if low-brow showcase for fast cars, stunts, and some gags. On the TCM app for a few more days.

Wes Anderson basically got to sit at the Hollywood Bowl and watch amazing musicians perform score and soundtrack for him like a Roman king. Film twitter lost so much it’s hilarious.

If you were wondering if someone who worked on the straight to streaming movie Wardriver has seen Blackhat, which it sounds awfully like a small scale indie stab at, the answer is: at least someone in the art department!

ICE is not about immigration. ICE is not about the southern border. ICE is about normalizing paramilitary force on our streets. It cannot be reformed. It cannot be retrained. ICE must be abolished.

Just watched a Halloween episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air which does a "it was all a dream... but wait, the events of the first day which set it all off are happening exactly in real life!" ending, means there's a chance a staff writer watched Umberto Lenzi's Nightmare City.

As much as the death of physical media support from Sony requires an opposing groundswell of physical support elsewhere, it just as much shows the credence of emulation as an archival need.
