Het IPCC het klimaatpanel van de Verenigde Naties heeft het meest sombere klimaatscenario, waarin de aarde tegen 2100 met 4 tot 6 graden zou opwarmen, geschrapt. Tegelijkertijd verdwijnt ook het meest optimistische scenario, waarin de opwarming onder de 1,5 graad zou blijven. De verwachting ligt nu eerder rond de 2 graden. Maar volgens klimaatjurist Laura Burgers van de Universiteit van Amsterdam wordt het belang van dat geschrapte doemscenario overschat. Dat er veel gewicht aan dat scenario zou worden gehangen in klimaatzaken is eigenlijk niet waar.
