The virtus dormitiva of opium. "Dialectic" - when it isn't just two people having a conversation about something with some aim of accord - is a seriously pernicious, mystifying hocus-pocus of mentalized rhetoric. "Things" are not speaking. "Events" are not speaking. Even "Ideas" are not speaking.

Hadot's book on Plotinus, developing spiritual virtue (first cap). See the footnote, the notion of "gathering together". I always wondered about Holderlin's final lines of his incredible poem Mnemosyne (attached), where one must gather oneself up "Zusammengenommen". This is in parallel to that.

Well, after all that pre-slander, Supergirl (2026) was actually enjoyable. Several good to even excellent marks on it (especially if you grade it on an All Comic Book films curve). Believable character arc, if John Wick can be about a dog, so can this film, villain lame but the whole world design 1/

When I use social media to catch up on what has been happening politically, its basically a stream of insults, just reading (even dependable authors) hurling insults & kinds of slurs...because that is the discourse now. My info "entertainment" is a poisonous string of insults really. Brainwash.

ok.ru/video/777503... << a somewhat incredible documentary of the Hemingway-esque (seaman, author, War Hero) Film Noir actor Sterling Hayden. A German crew interviews him in 1982-ish while he struggles heavily with alcohol and depression, on his house barge in France, culminating 1/2

lol her credibility is fine. she's a highly esteemed academic acutally! but in any case, yes, exactly. thank you for illustrating my point (were you searching 'nolan' btw?)

Watched Breakout (1975), pure 1970s goodness. Bronson v. Bronson, but light hearted as a "dude". Saw where John Waters likely got the Hatchet Face helicopter jailbreak scene in Cry Baby from. Randy Quaid in drag, a guy surprise gets propellered into a spray of laundry. Even John Huston acting.

One presumes things seemingly *quintessentially* Thai have been so for centuries. Not so, even things like gender designation is of modern construction: (ka/crop) and distinctive dress (1940s). Read this thread on how Thais began adding ka & crop by decree.

It's not only just a question of permission and generated anguish. Zulawsky had a particular kind of intense process crazy (his skill), and he was in a very personal place in that he was making a movie about his ex-wife (with whom he was in love), being played by Adjani...as if his wife was present.

"in heraclitus’ fragments (Ἡράκλειτος, dk 22 b18), “if one does not hope, one will not discover the unhoped-for” (ἐὰν μὴ ἔλπηται, ἀνέλπιστον οὐκ ἐξευρήσει), for it is “unsearchable and inaccessible” (ἀνεξερεύνητον ἐὸν καὶ ἄπορον)."

Lou Andreas-Salome's 1922 rebuttal to Freud's invention of the Death Drive (breaking from Spinoza) in Beyond The Pleasure Principle is one of the most ignored powerful, corrective texts of psychoanalytic theory.
