I ended up improving a lot by saying "fuck it" and going ahead and making that comic, despite not having amazing technical skills. Sometimes you just need to do the thing you want to do.

Painted a dragon on a wooden plaque I got at the thrift store. I did a layer of gesso first, then drew my design on with pencil before painting with acrylics. I then scanned the finished piece and did my best to edit the colors to match how it looks irl.
