Every major news outlet was scooped on the biggest sports story in the US this year by a podcaster, not because they don’t have the resources but because they all primarily do access journalism and boosterism instead of actual reporting.

Just gonna toss out there that one of the central facts of US politics--all politics, really--is that the general populace knows very little about who holds power, how gov't works, what policies do & don't exist, the balance of economic forces, or really much of anything outside their lifeworlds.
What Pablo Torre did was ridiculously impressive. Uncovered a conspiracy between rich guys, withstood a propaganda campaign by one of the richest guys in the world with a pretty good reputation, didn't buckle or panic, and just kept reporting. That's some Pulitzerin' right there.
this is the most elite accountability we’ve seen in decades
The NBA has come down hard on the LA Clippers as it finally announced the results of its investigation into the organization and its star, Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers will lose five first-round picks and are being fined $30 million. More details: nyti.ms/4dbic51
I can't say what I want to say, but I'm just noting the ongoing attempts to "take down" Black academics with plagiarism accusations, while *gestures* this seems to have minimal career or reputational impacts
I was at a small meeting held by a regional Federal Reserve Bank years ago, and the “rising star” academic they hosted as a keynote of sorts was Ariely. Let’s just say I had already developed pretty good bullshit-dar, it was pegging the meter. (Can’t imagine what his b-school salary must by now.)
I wrote a little about yesterday's whistleblower report on mail ballots--and a lot about the Supreme Court's strategy for helping Trump just keep breaking the law namely: delay delay delay ballsandstrikes.org/scotus/trump...
Ahead of the midterms, Trump isn’t even being subtle about his brazen politicization of federal disaster relief aid, explicitly tying approvals to campaign endorsements and election results. It’s one of the underappreciated scandals of his second term. www.ms.now/rachel-maddo...
Trump approves disaster relief funds for 7 red states, after denying aid to blue states
Ahead of the midterm elections, the president isn’t even being subtle about his scandalous politicization of disaster aid.

Everywhere he went, Ed Markey's biggest applause line was about protecting trans people. The Massholes yearn for trans liberation.

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
The polls are super bad for Trump so he's definitely going to try to cheat www.nytimes.com/2026/09/01/u...
I would like ask JD Vance about Pierre Damas Bel.

Moulton ran a primary campaign for CNN pundits and "centrist" voters in the only state where every single congressional district elected a Democrat and had more Harris voters than Trump voters in 2024. He saw Trump win and his takeaway was that MASSACHUSETTS would want a more "moderate" Senator now
Seth Moulton is going to eat shit today because he is out of touch with his electorate. He tried to make himself a national media figure by coming out against trans athletes in the midst of voters scrambling to handle the internal trans refugees moving to our state to flee red state anti-trans laws.
we have immigrant concentration camps, diarrhea lettuce, zillion dollar gas, suicidal soldiers, measles resurgence, national park land sold to the highest bidder and teachers crowdfunding school supplies, but the real problems facing our country are a muslim senate candidate and an influencer

if this happens, the democratic president should ignore the stay and keep tearing down the buildling
What are the odds the same justices issue an emergency stay on a highly accelerated timeline blocking a Democratic president from demolishing it?
The shooting at a Tucson gay bar last night that left 3 men dead has been confirmed as a hate crime by Mayor Romero. The killer was found with addresses of “multiple LGBTQ+ friendly venues”. To the friends and families of the victims and to the LGBTQ+ community, I send my deepest sympathy.
it’s deeply embarrassing that they keep trying to come up with a comprehensive definition of “wokeness” when the actual definition is “lib shit that annoys me”
I have to admire his ability, after all these years, to come up with a definition of "woke" that is even dumber and worse than anything that came before.
in john roberts’ constitution, congress does not exist and the power of the purse belongs to the president, who is an elected dictator embodying the authentic Will of the People
The gig is up in the very first sentence of the Supreme Court's per curiam opinion on the Trump ballroom (emphasis added): "In October 2025, the *federal government* started a project to replace the East Wing of the White House." They've collapsed the legislative branch into the unitary executive.
It’s worse than that: Hegseth’s preferred replacement picks for these positions are unlike to survive a Senate confirmation process.
Pete Hegseth makes George McClellan look like George Patton: "With Driscoll’s departure, the Army will lack any Senate-confirmed civilian or military leaders." www.wsj.com/politics/nat...
you see, no one has standing when it comes time to sue the president because he is a very special birthday boy
Breaking news: The Supreme Court said construction can continue on the White House ballroom. The justices found that the historic preservationists who challenged the project had not suffered the direct personal harm required to bring a lawsuit.
How many students were kicked off their campuses for protesting this stuff? It's not just the psychotic openly genocidal propaganda, it's that the people in power in the US made it so that if you criticize this openly, your life could be destroyed.
Ben Gvir posted this video on twitter today which shows fat and happy Palestinians on a conveyer built going through the Israeli "prison" (torture camp) system and coming out emaciated and maudlin. This is textbook genocidal content.

it is in fact just the media, which has devoted more attention to this than it has to the fact that multiple republican lawmakers are dealing with “we hired nazis” scandals and that the “we hired nazis” problem extends to the white house
Tur: It’s not just the media, and I reject that framing. 6 in 10 Americans don’t know who he is. I’m not saying he’s the most important person in the world, but...is it worth losing votes you need to win? AES: 10 in 10 Americans agree that they can’t afford the things that they need in their lives.
It is not a "grim choice" to support either a psychotic Republican or a mainstream center-left politician.
“At the time, the White House said Freedom Fuel was a private company willing to accept smaller profit margins to offer cheaper gas. Politico later reported that former New Jersey mayor Randy Brown, who now works as a special teams coach for the Baltimore Ravens, was one of the people involved.”

The official U.S. Department of Education Twitter account posted, then deleted, a video positively comparing Trump to Hitler. Captioned “No one does it like us” with a tiger emoji, the video opens with a scene from Darkest Hour wherein Winston Churchill refers to Hitler as a tiger.
