I woke up this morning with red puffy eyes from crying about other people wrapping on Yellowjackets, what am I going to be like when it’s finally me
I won an award at Sundance years ago and Sam Neill, whom I did not know, tweeted to me “we’re all so proud of you, sweetheart”. I can’t even express what that meant to me. That our most beloved national treasure, a man I worshipped, would take the time to write to me!
it's not just that Mamdani is charming af (he is), it's that he is normalizing the idea that children are full members of society that we all share a collective responsibility for
From @acyn.bsky.social (posted on X) "Reporter: Do any of you have a favorite animal? Child: My favorite one is a gold snake that can move. It has gold eyes, and it has a super-duper tail… Reporter: Mr. Mamdani, the second question for you. Mamdani: Yes. It’s also the golden snake."
What is the narrative exactly ? A white house staffer who has unfettered access to the president’s account with no safeguards was casually watching videos in which the obamas are portrayed as apes, and then accidentally hit post?
POLITICO reporting that the White House has now claimed the ape video was an accident and removed it.
Was driving my kids to school and the first thing on the radio was reporting about Trump's video depicting the Obamas as apes and I think many people still don't fully appreciate what it means to have to raise Black children in a country where the president is so brazenly and consistently racist
I am raising a kind, caring child who is hurt and confused whenever she sees someone behave in a mean or selfish way, and this gentle little person is growing up in a world half-full of loud, cruel, racist idiots who have more empathy for corporations than for actual human beings. It breaks my heart
The funniest comedy of the year is on VOD! You can rent it on Amazon for 99 cents right now! So you have no excuses -- go watch this wonderful movie! amzn.to/3Iazq6x @melanielynskey.bsky.social
'Griffin In Summer' Is Brutally Funny Theater Kid Coming-Of-Age Brilliance
You cannot keep a good man down and David is the best there is
Veteran entertainment journalist David Canfield has joined The Hollywood Reporter as senior entertainment writer.
What Robert Redford contributed to American films via Sundance is genuinely immeasurable. He was also an extraordinarily talented director--Ordinary People and Quiz Show are two of the best American studio movies of their eras--and an actor who somehow wore his incredible charisma almost shyly. RIP.
Richard is a truly brilliant critic and I want to read his writing forever.
Area Critic (Me) Needs New Job. Reach out if you want me to write for you! Doesn't have to be reviews!
Our whole timeline has been nothing but journalists, critics and culture writers announcing their own layoffs and I'm literally sickened by the thought of what will happen to society when all of their work will be taken over by Clippy
This is such a terrible decision. I agree with absolutely everything Adam says below. These are three of the best writers around.
Welp, @rilaws.bsky.social, @brezwrites.bsky.social and David Canfield are among the very best in their fields and any publication with their bylines would be much richer for it.
Those aren’t reviews. Those are opinions, and they have their place and uses, but they do not substitute for deeply informed and engaging critical writing, which is a skill that takes time, practice, and experience to develop.
Life changes. Organisms/organizations need to adapt. I'm sure people go to crowdsourced info for reviews, like Goodreads, just like Yelp and others for restaurant reviews.
I really love this movie and I’m so proud to be part of it. Everett Blunck (playing Griffin) is so naturally talented, just brilliant, and truly, I loved everyone involved. In theaters (!!) August 29th! #GriffinInSummer www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...
Owen Teague, Melanie Lynskey, Kathryn Newton’s ‘Griffin in Summer’ Gets Release Date, First Trailer (Exclusive)
Everett Blunck and Abby Ryder Fortson also star in the coming-of-age feature from writer-director Nicholas Colia that hits theaters this year from Vertical.

If you read anything about Malcolm-Jamal Warner's life and legacy, let it be this from @joelanderson.bsky.social www.theringer.com/2025/07/21/t...
Malcolm-Jamal Warner and the Other Side of the Climb
The actor, most remembered for playing Theo Huxtable on ‘The Cosby Show,’ passed away Sunday. But his legacy spans much more than one character.

They deported A CHILD. WITH CANCER.
BREAKING: @aclu.org says Trump deported a child (U.S. citizen) with metastatic cancer without medication or consultation with physicians. This is the second child with cancer he's deported. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol... @rollingstone.com
The Hughes Fire burned 10,000 acres in less than 24 hours, expanding 50 times in size—from 100 to 5,000 acres—and putting more than 30,000 people under mandatory evacuation orders, including 4,700 incarcerated people who were ordered to shelter in place in their prison complex.
New wildfires are breaking out in Los Angeles
Firefighters are beating the Palisades and Eaton fires—but fresh ones have already burned 10,000 acres.

Please see Hard Truths even though it was SOMEHOW nominated for nothing today. It’s so incredibly good, and so funny, until you realise you stopped laughing and started crying but can’t quite pinpoint when. The entire cast is wonderful (put Michele Austin in everything, please. & Tuwaine Barrett?!)
In 50 years or even 5, people who regard Nickel Boys as a masterpiece won’t have any idea how it performed at the box office or how many nominations it got. I may have to remind myself of that a few times this week.
The Movie That Haunted Me More Than Any Other This Year
This Oscar contender makes a radical choice—for a very good reason.

Such sad news about David Lynch. The greatest of the greats. At the age of 14 I rented his films from our local video store over and over again. I still remember that buzzy, electric feeling of being inspired to the depths of my soul and feeling like anything was possible if these films existed.
We are teaching children that living with integrity is a fantastical notion best left behind in childhood.
Thank you to everyone checking in. We remain on high alert, this is far from over, but I am filled with gratitude to be able to say that right now, we are ok. So many people we love have lost everything. It’s impossible to comprehend. The devastation is unbearable.
Donut jumped up on the counter and tapped the speaker on, and it started playing the Paul Young song Everytime You Go Away (you take a piece of me with you). He was in fact left alone for like two hours today. Is this kitten a creepy genius
This morning I cooked while my daughter sang a beautiful rendition of Pink Pony Club and Jason accompanied her on the cat piano (plays meows in the note you hit). I’m thankful for these two
Love this review of After The Party which celebrates my beautiful friend Robyn in the way she deserves to be celebrated (you can watch now in the UK!) www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...
After the Party review – hands down the best acting on TV all year
Peter Mullan is perfectly cast and Robyn Malcolm delivers the performance of 2024 in this dark, provocative drama about a woman who accuses her husband of a sex act with a minor
