I've written a longer piece on the book that's been pulled due to "AI" use allegations, what that means particularly for newer authors, and what, if anything writers can do in the "AI" era to prove their work is their own: whatever.scalzi.com/2026/07/31/a...

Another Reason Not to Use “AI” For Your Writing

Back in February I did a long post about “AI” and why I wouldn’t use it for my own writing, and one of the reasons I gave was “the fact that ‘AI’-generated text …

I bought my house 10 years ago. In the 1st 2 yrs? A mess of things to fix. 10yr in? A new flurry: garage door broke (trapping the car inside it), pipe fracture (repiping the house-to-street), water softener needed replaced, & now the pool pump died. Hoping this means 10yr to next flurry.

My cat is napping w a cricket in the tub. Again. I keep relocating crickets back outside, yet here we are. I'm starting to hope it's the same cricket & they are communicating in some cricket-cat way my puny human brain doesn't understand. It's a cat/cricket version of How to Tame Your Dragon...

I absolutely love seeing a school think this way! I paid my college w loans (that I paid off w book advances) & scholarships. Then went to a grad school that offered an assistantship bc I couldn't afford PhD program I desperately wanted. And STILL supplemented my TA cash by running a biker bar.

I get jury duty summons like clockwork. 7 in 12 yrs. (My record is 22 months without jury duty.) My daughter? 1 ever. Adult son? 1. Today my wife got her 2nd one in 10 years. Maybe I won't get one this year! (I don't usually write thrillers, but I have pondered this as an entry to one.)
