An interesting story which might be stronger were the subject's critic not a blinding racist, but that doesn't mean he's wrong about this. He lays out the evidence on Substack and it does appear compelling, or at least answerable. Cambridge University doesn't come out of this well at all.

I'm resisting the temptation to remind everyone as to just what a harridan Ann Widdecombe was, and how and seemed to stand for just about everything that I found repugnant, but her end sounds appalling and undeserved. I hope they catch the bastard who did it.
