this part in emily wilson's critique threw me. everyone who is not odysseus is a plot device in some way to serve his narrative. to flatten these characters down to how much screen time they have or tropes incorrectly is wild. I respect wilson's critique as I love the film but this is wild.
Re the Emily Wilson discourse - her Dad (A N Wilson) was the king of literary feuds. A good family tradition. Best one was his feud with Bevis Hillier who hoaxed him into including a fake letter in his biography of Bejteman where the first letter of each sentence spelt "AN Wilson is a shit".
