The DNC met in Austin this past week, and three things happened that are worth your time. The ranked choice voting ban is dead. "Abolish ICE" is now our official position. And we confirmed a six-state early window that includes Nevada & New Mexico – the most diverse early calendar in party history.

DNC Re-Kapp: Summer Meeting 2026

Inside the fight to kill the RCV ban, the vote that made "abolish ICE" official, and how New Mexico got into the early window.

I mean, if you want to go back to losing that's your business, but under Ken Martin we are kicking ass, raising record money, investing in state parties, and abolishing ICE. I know you and Rahm Emanuel are scared but you can step out of the panic room now. Get in loser we're going winning elections

Before a single state applied, the DNC agreed on three tests: is it rigorous, is it fair, is it efficient? I believed that the whole early window should look like our Party, not a piece of it. I'm proud to have made some small impact on this historic and diverse calendar. Now let's go win. 🖐️☝️

IT’S OFFICIAL: The DNC has voted to confirm the early window states for the 2028 Democratic presidential nominating process. These states reflect the diversity of America and will help ensure our nominee is best positioned to take back the White House in 2028.

A blue and white graphic. Text reads, "2028 Democratic Presidential Primary: Early Window States:
South Carolina, Jan 22, 2028
Nevada, Feb 1, 2028
New Hampshire, Feb 8, 2028
New Mexico, Feb 15, 2028
Michigan, Feb 22, 2028
Virginia, Feb 29, 2028."

BREAKING: the Democratic National Committee just unanimously approved a resolution calling for the abolition of ICE! After terrorizing our friends, families, and neighbors, ICE has no place in our nation. I'm grateful @democrats.org agreed. Now we're onto the hard work to make that happen!

BREAKING (and I use this tag with purpose and intention): The DNC has rejected efforts to ban Ranked Choice Voting from being used in presidential primaries. A huge win for DC, Maine, Alaska and other states who love our RCV systems and want the full voices of our voters to matter in 2028. Big W!

Leading up to the midterms, the DNC has traveled across the country to train aspiring and current campaign staffers so they can win competitive races. Our upcoming NextWave Regional Bootcamp will help us win up and down the ballot in the Midwest this November and beyond.

Text on screen reads, "Politico: DNC plans a Chicago bootcamp by Shia Kapos. The Democratic National Committee is bringing its biggest campaign training program to Chicago this month, as Chair Ken Martin puts more emphasis on building campaign infrastructure ahead of the 2026 midterms.

The DNC will hold its Midwest NextWave Regional Bootcamp from Aug. 26-28, bringing aspiring and current Democratic campaign staffers from across the region together for three days of training in organizing, voter registration, fundraising, data and communications.

Democrats are building the strongest campaign operation in the country by investing in the people who will power victories up and down the ballot,' Martin said in a statement. 'We are excited to bring this proven program to the Midwest and continue preparing the next generation of organizers and campaign staff to win in 2026 and beyond.'" Below, an image of the attendees at the Pittsburgh NextWave Regional Bootcamp appears.

They can lie and say it's about the fundraising. It's an obvious lie, since Martin's fundraising has been record-breaking. They can say it's about the debt, but it's not, because they were the ones who gave us the debt. It's simply, as it has always been, about whether the money goes to them or not.

If Ken Martin hadn't started spending money in places where it went to hire organizers and hoarded it instead to spend on TV ads that made money for DC consultants, you'd be hearing DC media sing his high praises for his record-setting fundraising. But it's not about the $ coming in. It's going out

And let's not forget our friends in Puerto Rico, Guam, NMI, American Samoa & others, who the Pod Save bros think are unworthy of DNC funding. I won't stand for borderline racist attacks on American citizens -- downballot races always matter, regardless of whether you live in a territory or a state.

Think about what the Democratic Parties in Kansas, Mississippi, Idaho, West Virginia, and everywhere else are able to do with $25,000 a month. They're able to hire executive directors, hire organizers, build sustainable infrastructure, all of which helps win state legislative and municipal races.

BECAUSE THIS MUST BE SAID The Democratic Party is not broke. Ken Martin has been a gangbusters fundraiser. The money has been invested in state parties to allow them to build permanent infrastructure. You've been told lies by DC consultants who wish they were getting that money instead.

No major media seems interested in the fact that senior DNC staff is openly undermining Ken Martin and literally withholding documents they don't want him to see, and you can bet the reason for that is that those are the same staffers media depend on for leaks so reporters won't spotlight them.

Because I've seen this three times today: the DNC cannot stop candidates from texting you. Literally, there is no mechanism by which that can happen. Sorry, can't blame that one on Ken Martin.

Very important piece by @davidoatkins.bsky.social at Washington Monthly: the DNC is actually doing just fine and raising record money, and the hit pieces are a product of a tier of useless DC consultants who don't want their media buy gravy train to end. washingtonmonthly.com/2026/07/31/t...

The Case for the DNC’s Ken Martin. Really.

Martin is being excoriated, but he’s taking on the consultant class, building a strong grassroots operation, and raising tons of money.

washingtonmonthly.com

It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.

Ken Martin's $154M haul is 60% more than Tom Perez raised last time we were out of power, with grassroots giving surging & big donors up 68% over Perez. If you're worried about cash on hand, we're investing in state parties & seeing results. Same complaint from the consultants Ken cut off.

Woof. This is like 90% of the job. Wonder if big donors are just doing PACs or their own moneyball picks — or not donating. archive.is/Q10In

New financial reports released this week revealed the depth of the D.N.C.’s financial hole. The party is $2 million in debt, while the Republican National Committee has $128.5 million in cash on hand. The party that holds the White House almost always raises more money into its party coffers, but this year’s chasm is extraordinarily large.

The DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee just unanimously approved my amendment to expand the 2028 early window to six states. No community should leave this process feeling like our calendar wasn't built for them. I'm proud that this body said yes to expanding the table – together.
