Historian of Indigenous America, writer of books, and hearer of bands you’ve never heard in dingy clubs you’ve not likely visited. Good at trivia. MichaelLeroyOberg.com

Things that might get me to watch baseball again: 1. An NFL style salary cap 2. Once 1 is implemented, a rule forcing inept owners (10 sub .500 seasons?) to sell their teams. 3. And I know nobody cares but me, but get rid of the DH.

This book came out 11 yrs ago. Im pretty fond of it. And it has “Odyssey” in the title and the subject was definitely tormented and troubled. And, again, it’s about an Odyssey. Or an oddity. Or something. www.pennpress.org/978081224676...

Contemporary proponents of “institutional neutrality” fail to grasp that universities have never been outside politics.

I am a historian of Indigenous America. I’ve been making this point for the last decade at least. We must confront those who attack what we do and call them to account. Demand that they produce evidence. Expose their ignorance. We must be productive scholars willing to combat right wing smears.

If after the passage of 250 years the American Revolution remains “unfinished,” its ideals of unalienable rights to life, liberty and property unfulfilled, perhaps Americans in large numbers have never really subscribed to those ideals.

Another killing by ICE, this time in Maine. That’s twice in one week. How can America keep asking immigrant workers to work as usual if they are being shot dead on their way to work? Stop killing us.

As I was driving with my wife and sis-in-law (both US-Mexico dual citizens) she asked what would happen if we were chased by unmarked cars? Would we run? How would we protect ourselves, or the teenagers in the back seat? Fight back? There is no safety. ICE=lawlessness.

A student in my history fellowship program has placed her blog posts on the Bayside Historical Society’s webpage. It’s part of a program where I place students in local historian’s offices across NYS. Do us a favor and share this. I’d like her posts to get some hits. Thanks, friends. It’s good work.
