"The events of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” occur today: August 4, 2026. Like so many dates in science fiction, this one probably seemed far away when it was chosen, but once it was finally upon us, it passed like all days." www.rogerebert.com/mzs/silhouet...

Happy THERE WILL COME SOFT RAINS Day! Looks like old Ray was off by a couple weeks.
Just ate some incredible fish tacos and my mood is 33% better. This new place is already firmly cemented in our restaurant rotation.
Does anyone at US Soccer believe he will actually be the coach in 4 years? But hey, if you can overpay for a second cycle with a guy who’s signature win is against Paraguay, you gotta do it. I’ve been a Poch skeptic for a while now, he’s no Klinsmann, but he’s not worth the risk.
#USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino has renewed his contract through 2030. @henrybushnell.bsky.social with the initial news story. More to come… www.nytimes.com/athletic/748...

Watching Jaws 2 and everyone makes the joke about the mayor from Jaws still being the mayor in the sequel, but what about Chief Brody?! He knew there was a shark out there but let people go swimming anyway. The whole govt was corrupt, Amity needed to clean house.
He took all the goodwill and momentum from the World Cup and drove it off a cliff in 2 weeks. A lesser man would still be on a yacht in Antibes, but not Gianni. He schemes 24/7, no vacations. It’s impressive in its own way.
BREAKING: FIFA President Gianni Infantino is abandoning a divisive plan to sell World Cup profits to private equity after massive pushback.
My nephew is the sweetest little kid but is apparently powered by a small nuclear reactor. One time when he was 4 and had just got caught digging a hole or climbing on top of the fridge again, my brother asked why he did it, and he said “my bones made me do it.”

I’d love for it to be Jeffrey Wright, but let’s face it, Ron Howard would be more appropriate. “Michael was making compromises all over the place.”
You suddenly get a narrator describing your life and there’s no way to turn it off - everyone can hear it. While shopping, at work, at home, with friends - the voice narrating your every move goes on. Who do you hope is the voice of this narrator?
FX already did a grimdark Christmas Carol adaptation a few years ago. And it was as entertaining and enjoyable as it sounds. Credit where due, given all the hundreds of movies over the years, it’s surprising no one else thought to flashback to show us why/how Scrooge sucks. What a concept!
OFFICIAL POSTER - Johnny Depp is Scrooge in director Ti West's A Christmas Carol movie EBENEZER, in theaters November 13, 2026 from Paramount. Andrea Riseborough, Ian McKellen, Sam Claflin, Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley and Tramell Tillman also star.
Best thing I can say about this #Crew96 game is that it’s made me MUCH more excited for their new signings. I’ve been skeptical but man, they’ve got to be better than whatever this was.
How many Jimothy tattoos do you think have been inked in the last few days? Mere thousands or do you think it’s up to tens of thousands? Imagining Seattle area tattoo shops running round the clock like factories during WWII.
The tiny blink of a moment when I feel a bit of me die as I go back to add extra exclamation points and an emoji to a text or email response.
In retrospect, smart of Spain to wait until extra time so they wouldn’t activate Argentina. Didn’t score too early. I see the vision now.
Well, I'd like to see ol Leo Messi wriggle his way out of THIS jam
Mikel Merino cannot be a World Cup winning goal scorer, I’m sorry.
Ok, the Muppets are the first aspect of “American culture” they’ve shown off today that I’m actually proud of.
Being forced to watch the final on Fox instead of Telemundo and you people have been living like this for a month?! How?!
Came across some World Cup ‘58 highlights and Pele looks like either a time traveler or an alien. On a completely different level. Imagine what he could have done with a halfway decent ball and a pair of Nike Phantom Elites.

What shade of purple do you think Mikel Arteta is right now with Rice still on the field? I’m guessing Grimace.
Really enjoyed the first episode of the newest Filmspotting spinoff? franchise? Either way, really interesting discussion that strengthens my belief Michael Shannon is one of the few celebrities I really like who I could hold an actual conversation with. It’s in the Filmspotting podcast feed.
A brand new something to download, first thing Monday: “The Movie Racket,” the latest @Filmspotting podcast. Host, me; Ep 1 guest, Michael Shannon. Show intro explains the idea, but I’ll tease it with: Nobody knows anything. There’s gold in them thar axioms!
Exactly 10 years ago, I finished packing up the rental van and got on I 70 to move from Ohio to California. Trish and the kids flew out the night before. I’d spend the next 5 days driving across the country alone barely staying on the right side of a nervous breakdown.
TCM is airing a John Carpenter curated a movie marathon right now. I guarantee it’s the best thing you’ll find on tv this evening.
I love how her glance at goal is literally “blink and you’ll miss it.”
Rose Lavelle knows EXACTLY who she is 🙌
